The Fish Cottage on Tybee Island

Welcome to a Tybee Island original home on 14th Street! This massive home has been converted into 3 separate suites, sleeps 20 guest total and is a short walk to the beach, restaurants, shops and night life. This is the perfect spot for family reunions, friends, multiple families, church groups, sports groups and so much more!

Enjoy the two spacious upper level deck with outdoor seating and gas grill, screened patios and swing, backyard hammock and chairs for relaxing with family and friends.

The Fish Cottage has 8 smart tv's, mesh wifi network, 2 King beds, 4 Queen beds, 2 sofa double beds, 4 twin beds, 4 full bathrooms, outdoor shower, 3 sets of washer and dryers and 3 full kitchens, 3 screened porches, 1 open air deck and parking for 6 vehicles. Each of the 3 suites have a separate entrance on the front of the home.

Heres the layout:

One Fish- Sleeps 4 in a queen bed and double futon style sofa bed, open studio style space with kitchen, laundry and full bathroom. Ground level suite with a few steps up to bathroom. Photos #3-#10.

Two Fish- Sleeps 6 with a King bedroom, queen bedroom, sleeper sofa in living room, full bathroom, laundry, kitchen and dining room. Ground level suite with no stairs or steps. Photos #12-#18

Red n' Blue Fish- Sleeps 10, King bedroom, Queen bedroom, Queen bedroom, 2 twins bedroom, twin daybed with trundle bed, 2 full bathrooms, kitchen and laundry. This suite is located up the interior stairwell in the middle of the home. Photos #20-#33

In many respects the property, if you rent all 3, is ideal for a large group or if you have people in your group who want a little privacy because it is huge! We loved the master suite, screened in porch, deck, large yard, big indoor eating area/kitchen, lots of parking and location. We were not as happy with what feels like a place which has seen to many visitors. It was clean but not CLEAN. The smaller upstairs bathroom drained very slowly, stove (glass top) had a broken burner, they left us 1 garbage can refill but insisted all garbage must be in a bag. One roll of cheap paper towels and not enough toilet paper- we had to buy all of the above. Finally, communication from the host felt like I was dealing with a chatbot and at times they didn’t answer my questions. They asked if I wanted to rent a golf cart (they had a great deal) and I said “yes” and it felt like the cart would be waiting (probably my misunderstanding). When I checked in they sent me a link and all carts were taken. A lot we liked, but we would probably upgrade to a bit nicer place and a host with far fewer properties.

Great place, well worth the value!

We stayed at this incredible house in Tybee Island with a group of 10 friends for New Year’s Eve, and it was perfect! The house was huge, giving everyone plenty of space to relax and enjoy themselves. The decor had great beach vibes that made us feel like we were on a true getaway.The location was unbeatable—just a few blocks from the beach, which was perfect for daytime strolls and taking in the ocean views. It was also well worth the price for the size, comfort, and amenities the house offered. The host was responsive and made the entire process seamless.We couldn’t have asked for a better spot to ring in the New Year. Highly recommend this rental for groups or families looking for a relaxing, spacious stay near the beach!Feel free to customize it further!

Horrible experience / Spider Webs / Smelly Showers / Inconvenient

This is multiple parts because I'm limited. Part 3: My daughter-in-law (home to the right) worked remotely. Virtual meetings are necessary for her workday. After my grandson took a shower on the main floor, water began flooding the downstairs in their home. Sewage water leaked through the hot water heater closet into the hallway, bathroom, kitchen, and dining room. This was a huge plumbing issue with sewage overflowing into all parts of the home. By the time we realized what happened, 1 of the service dogs was drenched in the water. The awful part is that the dog was forced to remain filthy with hours of no water for a bath. I reached out for help, nobody answered or called us back! We finally found support through VRBO support desk. It then took at least an hour for someone to come out. During this time, my son plunged the downstairs shower drain to provide some temporary relief. Once the property manager arrived to check out the issue, we took the opportunity to show him the nastiness throughout the other homes including the mouse droppings and smell in our home. The water was turned off and nobody else could shower, talk about inconvenience. Roto rooter did resolve the issue, followed by someone coming out to clean up the sewage water but not the houses. My daughter-in-law had no choice but to continue working virtually through this commotion. Her workday was hindered. The stench still lingered. I kindly asked the property Manager to have his supervisor give me a call.

Liked the 3 separate units for extra space.

The kitchen was well stocked and the three separate units (especially 3 kitchens) worked good for our family. And it was nice that we were all together under one roof.

Good place close to the beach

The house smelled clean upon entering. I was Leary due to a previous review. The ceiling in the hall of two fish has a board coming down that needs to be nailed up. The railing in one fish going to the bathroom is shaky and loose. The outer back door to one fish does not lock but there is a inner door that does lock. The furniture on the balconies are dirty. There is a nice size yard front and back but the grass should have been mowed, the foliage would be pretty if it were attended to. The house was great for our family gathering. The three different suites lended themselves to privacy or quite away from the larger group. Two fish needs curtains over the glass blocks in the bathroom. The light shines into the bedroom and you can see what is going on in the bathroom. It would make more privacy. The balconies are nice and breezy. The house is a convenient short walk to the beach and eating places. And there is an outdoor shower to rinse the beach off. Overall it a nice place.

False impression

Pictures of this cottage definitely need to be updated. The three cottages we booked were no way worth over $600 a night. The first cottage smelled so bad we were unable to use it. (had to put everyone in the other two) The ceiling was falling in the one of the cottages, refrigerator was working effectively. The large cottage was really hot for the first day, but then cooled off. The grass was so high that we could not let our toddler play outside at all. There is more but i think we get the picture.

Good, but needs TLC

We arrived and some moms in the group were wanting to leave immediately and find another place to stay. The outside needs some TLC - brush and weeds cleaned up, maybe some paint touch ups to give it some curb appeal. The inside was obviously cleaned between uses, but could really use a good deep clean. Refrigerator door handles were a bit nasty in the studio area. Years of dust have crusted the corners and baseboards. We chose to appreciate the character of it, but these things do need to be taken care of for the overall appeal of the place. It would be great if each section could somehow connect on the interior for large groups. It's a good space and has some great characteristics. It just needs a little more to bring it up a notch.
