Our stay was like a “home away from home”. The owners were more than accommodating. The cottage was in an exceptional location, clean, well-equipped and close to Fox Point beach, as well as many other tourist sites. The front deck was exceptional for outdoor dining and views. Nova Scotia’s charm and friendliness topped the visit. Thank you Kathy and Guy.

Huge Possibilities

It is with heavy hearts that we write this review. Having rented dozens of VRBO homes & always giving positive reviews, we can’t do that this time. We’ve always thoroughly enjoyed our travels to the Maritimes: the people, their honestly, the welcoming atmosphere have been a huge draw. Unfortunately, would could be a “million dollar view” is ruined by the fact that almost all windows seals are broken, resulting in condensation. A previous renter mentioned the traffic out front. It is a busy highway. We would not have allowed our children to walk down to the beach. The lack of communication resulted in servicemen coming without any notice to us. Kathy ( the owner from Ontario) seems to have a very full plate. Having a rental property means you have to deliver as promised, without excuses. We ran out of propane for the BBQ. There were 3 tanks under the deck, all empty. The home itself is comfortable & nicely decorated. The area around Hubbard is awesome. The drive along the shoreline, numerous unique shops & excellent restaurants were a pleasure. Highly recommend Tuna Blue in Hubbards. There is a huge amount of promise in this property.

Great family holiday

What a beautiful spot for my wife and I to stay. The owners were very accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed everyday visiting family and friends and could not have picked a better place to have done it.

Well equipped cottage with stunning views!

Our family really enjoyed our time here! The kitchen is very well equipped, as other reviewers note as well, which makes cooking easy and stress-free. The deck is large with stunning views of St. Margaret’s bay. You can even see Peggy’s Cove lighthouse in the far distance. The photos of the cottage accurately depict the property and it was exactly what we expected. The town of Hubbards is 5-minutes away, with great restaurants (recommend the Shore Club!) and well stocked grocery store. We enjoyed days trips to different beaches nearby, dinners on the spacious deck, s’mores at the fire pit in front and TV on the large screen TV in the cottage. One thing that was different than we expected was the highway right in front of the cottage. On a map, it seemed like a small, quiet, rural road, but in real life it’s a busy highway with lots of traffic. We had to be very careful walking to Fox Point beach just down the road. Something to bear in-mind for families with very young children; the front yard is right next to this busy highway.

Great view, but not great communication

When we booked, the listing showed an occupancy of up to 8. However, Kathy insisted that it could only hold 6. Thankfully, we only needed beds for six. As of the date of this review, the property still shows an occupancy of 8. When we arrived, Guy was there at the property and we were able to use the lockbox and retrieve the key. A digital keypad would be better. We asked about the wifi password, which we eventually got. There was no information sheet listing house rules, check-out time, wifi password, etc. This is pretty standard in every other house we've rented. The house was fairly clean, but the grill was dirty. The next evening, Guy brought over two cooked lobsters. Very kind! One odd thing about the rental is that it shares a driveway with the house next door, where Guy and his construction crew were living. We were always able to get in and out, but it was tight sometimes. In short, the location, view, and property amenities were wonderful. I just think that Guy and Kathy have a lot on their plates right now, and it resulted in a lack of good communication. I wish them nothing but the best in their business ventures. They are both kind and generous individuals.

Million dollar view

We spent seven weeks at this beautiful beach house. Great location! Short walk to the beach, short drive to some very sweet villages. Kitchen has lots of what you need to cook up some nice meals. BBQ needs a bit of work and a new bed in the master bedroom would be a big plus. Overall, this is an amazing spot to enjoy the summer. Thanks Kathy and Guy!

Great Nova Scotia getaway

Beautiful location with a well maintained place steps from the ocean. All the amenities for a prolonged stay were there. The ocean waves were extremely soothing for amazing sleeps at night. Truly a gorgeous spot!

Absolutely lovely place, super nice owners and great location

We found ourselves visiting family unexpectedly and we came during the winter months. We aren't normally there in the winter, but the cottage was a lovely place to experience it. Our family of four was very comfortable there. Our kids were even happy with the internet (and they are very picky kids!). There was lots of room for our family despite a bunch of us working a lot at the same time some days (and doing remote school). The place was clean, has a great charm, and was very comfortable... we felt lucky to be there. The location is also great - its right beside one of the beaches in the area (Fox Point). Its a smaller beach, but great that its right there. Its also a short drive to bigger beaches. I can only imagine how great this place would also be in the summer. There's a sun deck area and wonderful views. We did a few day trips to Halifax and there is lots of stuff in different locations to explore. Last but not least, the owners are wonderfully nice and great to deal with. Arriving was no flawless. A storm hit out their gfci breakers and they were quick to help me. Thanks very much Kathy and Guy!

Lovely spot with an ocean view

Fantastic house, comfortable, well-equipped with a fabulous wrap around and widow walk deck. We quarantined here and every day we had a different view: sunrise, sunsets, fishing boats, lonely loons. We love to cook, and had everything we could need to cook up a storm. We needed to alter our dates and had no trouble reaching Kathy, who was more than accommodating. We stayed for 5 weeks and loved every minute. Look forward to staying here again when we return to NS for a visit. -David and Anita, Fort Langley BC

Great vacation

Great property overlooking ocean. We enjoyed sitting on the large deck in the morning having coffee and watching for sea life. Saw porpoises and a seal. A very relaxing spot to vacation. The inside very clean with a well stocked kitchen. We had a minor problem and Kathy responded immediately to resolve it. The photos don’t do it justice. We’re already planning to return next year

Great space for a family get together.

Fabulous outdoor space with large deck, ocean views (and sounds). Upstairs living area had a great dining table and seats for all. Second bedroom a little small but very comfortable. Nice bathroom and good kitchen. The area is lovely, the beach a short walk away is sandy and lovely for kids. Great rocks for snorkeling too.

Wonderful coastal retreat

We had a wonderful time at the Cruickshanks cottage in September. It was so nice to have three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Everything in the cottage was very good quality including the dishes, appliances, TVs, furniture, etc. The location is incredible -- we couldn't tear ourselves away from the view of the bay and beach. We had a great time out on the massive deck and watched a seal come in and out of the bay for several days. Went for a swim a couple of times at the beach and so posh to just walk back to the cottage in flip-flops. We will be back!

Fabulous Nova Scotia holiday

We had a fantastic time. The house is centrally located with a small Beach across the road. How wonderful to go to sleep listening to the waves crash on shore. We were able to take in all sorts of sights; Peggy's Cove, Halifax Lunenberg, the Ovens, Mahone bay and Chester. Everything was so picturesque. The house had a fabulous deck and was beautifully decorated inside with all the things we needed. Spacious enough for the eight of us. We enjoyed the fire pit and made use of it most evenings making s'mores and roasting marshmallows. A fabulous time was had.

Great location!

Updated cottage in great location! We mostly stuck to 2 bedroom upstairs, but full suite in basement. Nicely decorated and well stocked with linens and kitchen necessities. We enjoyed our stay!

Summer Love

This is the second year we stayed at this piece of paradise. There is nothing better than falling asleep listening to the waves of the ocean which is just right across the street. Great property, but we had a few issues

This is a beautiful home and an awesome location. Hubbards is a great little town, close to all kinds of recreational opportunities with a short drive. The property was well kept, and mostly new or like new in appearance and function. On-site washer/dryer is nice, and worked very well. Also, the internet was fast and reliable - great for keeping in touch with home and for business people. However, we did have some issues. The main one was a strong cigarette smoke odor as soon as we walked in the door. It was bad enough we almost turned around and looked for somewhere else to stay. Instead I called the owner, and while she was very nice and apologetic, her solution was to offer to bring over candles or air freshener. Covering up a terrible odor with less terrible odors is not really helping. The weather was nice so we opened literally every window while we decided what to do. I spoke to Cathy again and she offered a small refund for our inconvenience, so we decided it would be better to stay than try to find somewhere else and then try to get a full refund. So we did. Luckily the weather stayed great and we left the windows open day and night for pretty much our whole stay, so it was tolerable. Unfortunately, I never did get the refund I was promised, and we are now more than a month home from the trip, so I am not holding my breath. If not for the smell and then not getting the promised remedy, this property would easily get 5/5, and in spite of this, we had a wonderful vacation. Seafood, craft beer, wineries, more seafood, scenery, friendly people... Nova Scotia is a great place to vacation!

Loved This Place

We stayed here from Aug. 30 to Sept. 7, 2016. We loved the location right across from the bay and just down the road from a wonderful little beach. Easy drive to Halifax and very near the major highway to all the sites. The house was great - very nice décor and wonderfully spacious. Loved sitting on the huge deck watching the water. The big kitchen table became a focal point for us. Very comfy living room and couches. Guy was staying in the unit below doing some work nearby - he was very friendly and helpful. The ice maker in the fridge wasn't working - after we called he brought over a big bag of ice and got it fixed right away. Only comment might be the master bed was firmer than I typically like. Otherwise, loved it!

Great base, stunning location

We spent two weeks at Fox Point Beach in August and had the best time. The property was situated just yards from beach and the view over St Margaret's Bay was stunning - from early morning sunrises to the moonlight shimmering on the dark water late at night. And all the time the soft lap of the waves. It was paradise. If you can drag yourself away from the very large verandah, there is so much to see and do. We had great days out in Halifax, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, Peggy's Cove and Chester (great sea kayaking), and there were plenty of trails to hike too. The house is a great size, with plenty of room. The kitchen is very well equipped. In the evenings we enjoyed watching the big screen TV and trying to work out the rules of baseball.
