I want to be clear that the employees I interacted with were kind and clearly doing their best. This was a management failure, not a staff one.
The morning after my first night, on Christmas Eve, I found a urine stain on my sheets and long hairs stuck to the shower walls. No one was at the front desk. Finally, a man arrived and told me all cleaning staff had been given Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off and offered clean the shower himself. I asked to be moved to a clean room, but he said he was only maintenance and I would need to speak with the front desk later.
Around 4 pm, I spoke with a front desk attendant, thinking the maintenance man might have been mistaken. He confirmed there was no cleaning staff on the 24th or 25th. I support staff having holidays off, but it is unreasonable to accept guests when basic cleanliness cannot be maintained.
I again reported the urine-stained sheets and dirty shower and asked to be moved to a clean room. That request was bypassed. The front desk agent offered to clean the shower himself and provide a new fitted sheet, stating he did not know how to make the bed. I told him not to worry about putting the sheet on, just to drop it off when he cleaned the bathtub. By 11:30 pm, the shower was still dirty, though the sheet was waiting at the front desk when we asked.
I requested a refund through Expedia, which was denied after nearly 36 hours. Guests were never warned about the lack of cleaning staff. I cannot recommend staying here.
