Stump Pass Beach delstatspark

Second day of training for Turtle Patrol with Wilma of the Coastal Wildlife Club. We are one of 52 groups that monitor the beaches of Florida for turtle nests.

On the west coast of Southwest Florida most of the turtles nesting are Loggerheads. They may lay three or four times during the season. Each nest may contain over 100 eggs which hatch in 45 days. It is amazing opportunity to be a part of this great group to watch what these turtles that have done this for many centuries.

Stump Pass State Park is a gem in Southwest Florida. There is a trail through the forested area of the park, but the best part is along the beach. Check the tides, when the tide is in, much of this area is covered with water, but when it's out, there is a spectacular, windswept, quiet beach to explore, complete with tons of shells and the trees and stumps that give this park its name. #BeachBound
