We recently stayed at Vamar Vallarta All Inclusive Marina & Beach Resort and overall had a mixed experience.
Before the security situation in Puerto Vallarta occurred, the resort itself was very enjoyable. The accommodations were comfortable, the buffet was well stocked with good variety and there were plenty of activities and entertainment options available. The staff we encountered were generally friendly and working hard to keep things running smoothly.
Unfortunately, once the cartel-related security situation developed in the area, the experience changed quite a bit. We were scheduled to check out, however because of the situation we had to book additional nights until we could leave. At that time, the resort charged us more per night than we originally paid. Many resort services were reduced — about half of the buffet stations were closed, most activities and entertainment stopped and the Wi-Fi was extremely unreliable. This made communication difficult at a time when many guests were trying to contact family members, airlines and consular services for information. Communication from the resort during the situation was also limited and many guests seemed unsure about what was happening or what steps they should take.
That said, we do recognize that this was a difficult and unusual situation for the resort staff as well and we appreciate that they continued operating and providing food and accommodation during a stressful time. We met people who were staying in other hote
