I booked this property as I saw they were part of the properties that in case you are Hotels.com Gold-member, can give offer room-upgrade depending on available capacity. I arrived to the hotel around 20:00 and saw on their webpage that they still had available rooms that I could upgrade to. After talking with the personnel in the reception they wanted to keep the room they had open in case other guests were arriving later that evening (which seems strange for a place in the Finnish countryside that seems to have more “planned visits” than drop-ins). I was given the possibility to pay for the upgrade, first for almost full price, then for a reduced price, and eventually after approx. 30 minutes of negotiation with receptionist and hotel manager (last over telephone) I was offered to upgrade the room for EUR 10. This was not a huge amount, so I accepted it and thanked for the possibility, but I find it strange that a hotel that themselves have decided to be part of the Hotels.com VIP/Gold-program, excuses their upgrade-fee on the reason that it is hotels.com that are stating that upgrades might be possible, and not themselves. I am questioning if this was worth it from the hotel’s side on a late Saturday evening with few potential other guests coming after us to claim EUR 10 for an upgrade. At least I got the first experience where a propoerty part of the VIP/Gold-program did not seem to focus solutions to a request, and rather wanted to focus on their limitations.

We (a couple) stayed in an Arctic Suite at the Aurora Collection hotel. It was fantastic! Nicky was an excellent host. Our room had both a private sauna and a private hot tub. We did not use the hot tub, but found the sauna delightful, clean, and plenty hot! The room was functional, clean, and had a small fridge and a kettle for heating water. The bed was comfortable and, as we visited in February, it was very warm and cozy. A continental breakfast was provided, which was fresh and filling. While we were there the weather cooperated every night and we could easily watch the aurora from our bed. This was a very special experience. The hotel is new, and in February 2022 the reception building was not complete. This did not detract from our stay, and we look forward to seeing it when we return to the Aurora Collection!
