Voidomatis river, a 215 kilometers length branch of Aoos river, is located in the prefecture of Ioannina in Epirus. It flows around Konitsa, in one of the most beautiful route crossings of Greece with its most spectacular view being the mountain scenery at Gorge Vikos. The area has been declared as a national park since 1973.

Ioannina is the capital and largest city of the Ioannina regional unit and of Epirus. The city's foundation has traditionally been ascribed to the Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 6th century AD and flourished in the late Byzantine period (13th–15th centuries).
