Ioannina is the capital and largest city of the Ioannina regional unit and of Epirus. The city's foundation has traditionally been ascribed to the Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 6th century AD and flourished in the late Byzantine period (13th–15th centuries). Some points of interest, Isle of Lake Pamvotis, Ioannina Castle where Some of the most important museums of the city are located, like the The Municipal Ethnographic Museum is hosted in Aslan Pasha Mosque in the north-east citadel.

Raise your hand if you – like me – would never have guessed that this is… Greece! 🙋‍♀️ It was a steep but not too long hike up the mountains to get to Astraka refuge. We had great weather on the way up but it took a turn for the worse, so we dropped our stuff off in the refuge, had lunch, and waited. My legs were tired and I was so cold in the cabin so I really wasn’t feeling like getting out again to hike a bit more to get to Drakolimni/Dragon Lake but the skies cleared up again so I just couldn’t stay inside. And I was very happy I didn’t because the views were absolutely a m a z i n g. I mean I knew Greece is beautiful but I barely knew there are hikes to be done there, let alone with this kind of views.
