War memorial, Ringmer. Looking east along the village green and B2192. Ringmer was not originally the principal village of the area but a common for the farmers of Rushy Green, Ashton Green, Norlington and Wellingham to graze their livestock on. However, Ringmer soon became the parochial centre, and from the enclosures onwards the village grew, particularly after two turnpikes (nowadays the B2192 and B2124) were driven through the common in the 1740s. Now it's the principal village and the others have become small sleepy hamlets.

West Gote Cottages On Gote Lane and the only buildings on the lane until the construction of Sadlers Way housing estate in the 1980s completed the infilling of land bounded by the rural lanes to the south of Ringmer village.

Footway Field The name of the field according to the 1839 tithe map. The name probably derives from an ancient public access route through the fields which still exists today as part of a footpath from Ham Lane to the A26 near The Cock. Ham Farm is in the distance.

The entrance to Lewes Castle in East Sussex, England which stands at the highest point of the town on an artificial mound constructed with chalk blocks. Built in 1069 by William de Warenne the first Earl of Surrey it is one of only two remaining that are based upon the motte and bailey construction.
