Stay in one of Hackney Wick’s original converted industrial buildings, right in the heart of one of East London’s most creative and characterful neighbourhoods.
The first thing you’ll notice when you enter the flat is the **view**. A huge window looks directly across Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the London Stadium towards the Stratford skyline. During the day the flat fills with natural light, but at night the view becomes something really special, with the stadium and city lights stretching out in front of you.
Despite being right in the middle of Hackney Wick, the flat is surprisingly **quiet and private**, with no traffic noise. It’s a peaceful place to come back to after a long day exploring London, while everything that makes this neighbourhood interesting is just outside your door.
### The flat
The flat has two bedrooms, including an upstairs bedroom with a large skylight that brings in beautiful natural light.
The building itself has a story. It was once a **newspaper factory** and is one of the old industrial buildings that survived as Hackney Wick changed around it. Some of its original character is still visible inside the flat, including exposed structural steel passing through the upstairs bedroom.
These aren't decorative additions made to create an industrial look — they are part of the original building and its history.
There is also a comfortable sofa bed in the living room, which makes the flat particularly convenient for friends travelling together. **Three people can sleep in three separate beds**, without anyone having to share.
You'll have the entire flat to yourself, with a fully equipped kitchen including hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, dishwasher and fridge.
The flat also has **very fast and reliable Wi-Fi** and a dedicated desk, making it a great option if you need to work remotely, have video calls or simply want a strong internet connection during your stay.
In winter, the flat is **very warm and cosy**, with powerful heating and a thermostat that you can control yourself. If you're someone who really feels the cold, you'll be comfortable here.
Towels, bedding, shampoo and shower gel are provided.
### A side of London not everyone discovers
For me, the neighbourhood is one of the best parts of staying here.
Hackney Wick was once an industrial corner of East London filled with factories, warehouses and workshops. Over time, many of these spaces became homes, studios and creative spaces, attracting artists, designers, musicians and makers.
One of the things that made Hackney Wick unusual was the freedom people had to transform these old industrial spaces. Artists could decorate, build and adapt their homes and studios in their own way, and this helped create the distinctive creative community the neighbourhood became known for.
The area has changed enormously in recent years. Many of the original factories and warehouses have disappeared and new developments have taken their place, but Hackney Wick has managed to hold onto some of the creative, unconventional and community feeling that made it special.
Old industrial buildings now sit beside new architecture. Huge murals and street art appear around unexpected corners. Independent cafés, breweries, studios, music venues and canal-side spaces are scattered throughout the neighbourhood.
Street artists from around the world have painted here, and simply walking around Hackney Wick can sometimes feel like exploring an open-air gallery.
**Hackney Wick isn't the London everyone knows from the guidebooks — and that's exactly what makes staying here interesting.**
### Street art, canals, food & nightlife
If you love **art, street art, creativity and discovering places that aren't on every tourist itinerary**, this is a particularly interesting part of London to stay in.
Walk out of the building and you can explore the canals, discover new murals, have a locally brewed beer, find independent restaurants and cafés or spend an evening at one of the area's creative venues.
Local favourites include **CRATE Brewery**, a canal-side brewery and pizzeria in a converted industrial building; **Howling Hops**, known for its craft beer; **Grow**, a canal-side bar and creative venue; **Hackney Bridge**, with food, drinks and events; and **Barge East**, a restaurant and bar aboard a historic Dutch barge.
Across the canal you'll also find **Here East**, another waterside area with cafés, restaurants and places to sit beside the water.
There are canals all around Hackney Wick and, especially during the warmer months, you can explore them by **kayak, paddleboard or boat**, or simply find a table beside the water and watch the sunset with a drink.
The neighbourhood is social and easy-going. You can go to a local pub and find yourself chatting with an artist, musician, designer or someone who has lived in Hackney Wick for years.
There are also plenty of independent cafés, restaurants, pizza places, pubs, breweries, nightlife and small local shops within walking distance.
### Olympic Park, Victoria Park & Stratford
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the **London Stadium are just across the road**, approximately five minutes away on foot.
The London Aquatics Centre and the park's walking and cycling routes are also nearby.
**Victoria Park** is a short walk away and is one of East London's best green spaces — perfect for walking, running, cycling, picnics or simply escaping the city for a while.
For shopping, **Westfield Stratford City** is around 15 minutes away on foot, with hundreds of shops, restaurants, supermarkets and entertainment.
The **ABBA Arena** is also nearby, making the flat a very convenient place to stay if you're coming to London for ABBA Voyage.
### Getting around London
One of the biggest advantages of the flat is how easy it is to get around.
**Hackney Wick Station is approximately one minute away on foot.**
From there you can quickly connect with the rest of London, while nearby Stratford is one of the city's major transport hubs, with the Elizabeth line, Central line, Jubilee line, DLR, Overground and National Rail connections.
This makes Central London very easy to reach while allowing you to stay somewhere with a completely different atmosphere from the usual tourist areas.
Stratford is also convenient for **Stansted Airport**, with direct coach services connecting Stratford and the airport.
### Important to know
The flat is located on the **third floor and there is no lift/elevator**. You will need to walk up three floors to reach the apartment, so please keep this in mind if you have mobility difficulties or are travelling with very heavy luggage.
During particularly warm summer days, the **upstairs bedroom can get quite warm**, especially because of the skylight and the natural light it receives throughout the day. A **fan is provided** to help keep the room comfortable.
In winter it's quite the opposite — the flat gets **very warm and cosy**, and you can control the heating yourself using the thermostat.
Being upstairs also contributes to the privacy, quiet atmosphere and beautiful open views across the Olympic Park and Stratford skyline.
### Who will love staying here
I think this flat is particularly suited to **easy-going, curious and social travellers** who love art, street culture, independent places and neighbourhoods with a real identity.
It's a great choice if you'd rather discover an interesting local neighbourhood than stay surrounded only by London's major tourist attractions.
You can wake up overlooking the Olympic Park, walk downstairs and explore street art and old industrial buildings, have lunch beside the canal, discover a small brewery or café, meet interesting people and still be in Central London very quickly when you want to explore the rest of the city.
You get the best of both worlds: a **quiet, private and comfortable home with an incredible view**, and one of East London's most distinctive creative neighbourhoods waiting just outside the door.
If you love art, street culture, canals, interesting people and places with a real story behind them, you'll probably feel very at home here.
