Far Ings National Nature Reserve

Pam and I were made very welcome and didn’t feel like outsiders at all. Brilliant decor and comfort. I would highly recommend Oliver’s Guesthouse Peter Finbarr-Smith

When we turned up the place was pretty deserted. A man introduced himself as the chef and checked us in. He was very nice and friendly. The room was booked for 2 adults and 2 children but only had a double bed. The chef brought us a z bed for the kids. There was a large hole in the ceiling from a water leak/burst pipe so all the carpet had had to be ripped up but obviously these things do happen, we were told they were waiting for it to be repaired. The room wasn't very clean, there was debris on the floor like it hadn't been hoovered in a while, some of the linen (and the armchair) were stained and there were cobwebs everywhere. There was damp on the window, wallpaper peeling off and the shelf in the room wasn't fixed to the wall properly and wobbled like mad when we tried to put things on it. We asked what was on the menu for dinner (seeing as it's a restaurant) but the chef wasn't forthcoming with a menu and seemed reluctant to cook. He was the only staff member we saw so I guess he was busy. We ended up ordering a takeaway and ate outside on the picnic bench but when we went to get drinks from the bar, we were served 2 tins of beer, and a vodka with flat Fanta. There was no coke (diet or otherwise) no gin, no lemonade, and the Fanta came from a 2L bottle not a pump. Pretty poor drink options for what looks like a lovely bar. We had breakfast included but opted to go to the Morrisons cafe instead.
