Reeves Theatre in Elkin, North Carolina. This theatre has been in the process of restoration for years and finally opened in the last couple years. Its restoration has brought a new wave of life to downtown. The aesthetic of this theatre reflects the historical and quaint look that Elkin aims for but has performances from modern day entertainers, as seen on the theatre’s billboard. It helps art and music flourish in this town and has easily become one of the biggest things to do on Friday and Saturday nights. The performers reflect the type of music that many people in the town like, country and blues. #appalachianechoes
Elkin Municipal Park Pool in Elkin, North Carolina. This pool is THE place to be in the warmer months of the year. It is where all the kids and teenagers go in their free time to swim, dive, eat, and hang out. It’s dingy appearance does not reflect the joy and fun that comes with this pool. The pool and park are the epicenter for kids because there is not much else for them to do. We like to think that having a wide variety of things to do is better but sometimes have a couple simple things can still bring great joy to those experiencing them. #appalachianechoes
Southern on Main/21 and Main in Elkin, North Carolina. 21 and main is one of the nicest restaurants in Elkin and is located right in historic downtown. The entire side of the building is covered in a mural of the Yadkin Valley wine region. Many people don’t know it, but you can find quite a few vineyards in the Appalachian region of North Carolina. One of my childhood friends from Elkin even worked on a vineyard that their parents owned. These vineyards are an important part of the region’s culture yet this is rarely realized. #appalachianechoes
Welcome sign in Elkin, North Carolina. Downtown Elkin is marketed as a historic and quaint town in the Yadkin Valley. It is funny to see this contrasted by an electronic welcome board. This board did not exist until the sometime in the past couple years or so. It makes you wonder why they chose to choose a more modern looking sign when they also want to keep the historic and quaint vibe that they market. In a way, I guess it is their way of integrating more modern technology to keep up with the times, and as a money making opportunity. #appalachianechoes

Older furnishings. The room was clean and comfortable, everything worked. The floor could have been swept or dust mopped more. Thin walls. We could hear conversations through the walls and the room above us. But we were satisfied with our stay. We would return in the future.
