2/10 – Forferdelig

I recently planned a trip to Dallas to visit my girlfriend and booked this hotel in advance through Expedia. When I arrived late at night after a three-hour drive from Nacogdoches, my experience at the front desk was very disappointing.
The employee who checked me in, Belle, was eating at the desk while speaking to me. She continued chewing while talking, which I found unprofessional and rude. She started with basic pleasantries, but after seeing my ID, she began questioning where I was coming from. When I told her Nacogdoches, she commented that it “wasn’t that far,” which felt dismissive considering I had just driven several hours at night.
She then informed me that because I am under 21, I could not stay at the hotel. I understand that policies are policies, and I respect that rule. My frustration comes from the overall service. After already receiving poor customer service, I was now being told I couldn’t stay at a hotel I had booked and paid for in advance. To make matters worse, she offered no helpful guidance on alternatives and even said she didn’t know what hotels would allow someone under 21 to check in. That came across as unhelpful and indifferent.
Good hospitality means at least trying to assist a guest when there’s an issue, even if the policy can’t be changed. Instead, I felt like my situation didn’t matter at all. I ultimately had to pay for another hotel last minute that allows 18+ check-in, which cost me extra money and stress.
