Sportshytter i Virginias

A world of subterranean wonders, a milestone in geological discoveries, Luray caverns, is a wonderful weekend getaway for those who are living near DC or Virginia. It is around 2 hours (or more) drive from washington DC.
This is a picture of the "Dream Lake", a spring of water which has a mirror-like appearance. Stalactites are reflected in the water making them appear to be stalagmites. This gives an illusion that the lake is deeper. The lake is connected to a spring that continues deeper into the caverns.
All in all, it was my first time exploring caverns. It was a fun filled day, learning the stories of the cavern.

Tips:
1) It is very crowded on weekends and holidays. If you want to enjoy peaceful, slow paced, less crowded tour of the caverns, go on weekdays.
2) If you visit the caverns, look for these things-
Saracen's tent - scarves and shawls of translucent calcite, falling in graceful folds, fringed with a thousand patterns, and so thin that a candle light can reveal the structure within!
The fried eggs formation - yes, it looks like fried eggs ;)
The Great Stalacpipe Organ - An actual organ which plays music- sounds of Stalactites! DO NOT miss this one!

«It was adequate for a night ; I wouldn't suggest staying any longer than that. The mattresses seemed to be new but were very hard, not good for side sleepers. It is in the process of renovation but has a lot of work still needed, particularly the bathroom. The pool was also out of order. Eat somewhere else. The bar was understaffed with only a single worker acting as both bartender and waiter. Management just stood there givng the poor guy a nasty look without help or direction. Food tasted ...

«Room was clean and well stocked. There is a fridge and microwave which I couldn't tell from the listing, and was nice to have! Nice location close to Matewan where our event was located. Quiet area and lots of parking which was great since we had two cars. My only "complaint" was too many plug in air fresheners, but that's a personal preference that I won't hold against them :) I just unplugged them during our stay so I didn't get a migraine. »

«It was a perfect weekend. The house is great for large groups, the bedrooms are all spaced out and there is so many bathrooms, that everyone had privacy. The decor is very eclectic and interesting, made me wonder about the travel stories that went with them. My favorite was hands down the master bathroom. A larger grill would be good as well as all the pieces to the checkers and chess sets. Convenient to wineries/breweries. Ducard is our favorite. We would definitely return!»

"Greit hotell. Gangavstand til metro som som også gikk til flyplassen. Rolig område med noen spisesteder. Vi hadde ikke rengjøring de 4 dagene vi bodde der da det var rengjøring en gang i uken. Stort rom med kjøkkenkrok. Det var kun 1 lenestol, kunne vært 2 da det var plass til det. "
