A world of subterranean wonders, a milestone in geological discoveries, Luray caverns, is a wonderful weekend getaway for those who are living near DC or Virginia. It is around 2 hours (or more) drive from washington DC.
This is a picture of the "Dream Lake", a spring of water which has a mirror-like appearance. Stalactites are reflected in the water making them appear to be stalagmites. This gives an illusion that the lake is deeper. The lake is connected to a spring that continues deeper into the caverns.
All in all, it was my first time exploring caverns. It was a fun filled day, learning the stories of the cavern.

Tips:
1) It is very crowded on weekends and holidays. If you want to enjoy peaceful, slow paced, less crowded tour of the caverns, go on weekdays.
2) If you visit the caverns, look for these things-
Saracen's tent - scarves and shawls of translucent calcite, falling in graceful folds, fringed with a thousand patterns, and so thin that a candle light can reveal the structure within!
The fried eggs formation - yes, it looks like fried eggs ;)
The Great Stalacpipe Organ - An actual organ which plays music- sounds of Stalactites! DO NOT miss this one!

«We stayed here for one night as we where driving through the area. The hotel is generally quite new and holds a modern standard. What bothers me about a brand new building (as a non us resident) is that there will still be quite a noticeable noise disturbance from neighbour rooms. This could have been alot better. We slept well though as the noise calmed down around evening time. Breakfast was very simple - just a few choices of yoghurt, muffin, granola bars, oatmeal and cooked eggs. »

«The room was clean, and the AC kept the room very comfortable. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was wonderful, offering many options. We enjoyed the little bar downstairs, where you could order a burger, a sandwich, fries, and a glass of wine or a cocktail. We were there for Accepted Student Day at Virginia Tech. It was easy to walk to the campus from the hotel. The hotel was also surrounded by many quick-service restaurants. Highly recommend.»

Only one issue, I did not see online where it said you could not fish in front of your bungalow, I only saw the sign when I pulled up to it. «The lake was very peaceful. The room was a good size. The instructions were so easy to follow. The security deposit was given back the day after. "Greit hotell. Gangavstand til metro som som også gikk til flyplassen. Rolig område med noen spisesteder. Vi hadde ikke rengjøring de 4 dagene vi bodde der da det var rengjøring en gang i uken. Stort rom med kjøkkenkrok. Det var kun 1 lenestol, kunne vært 2 da det var plass til det. "
