The Thomaston Colored Institute, aka Thomaston Academy, is a historic African American school building in the town of Thomaston, Alabama, United States. This two-story brick building was completed in 1910 as a private school by an African-American religious group, the West Alabama Primitive Baptist Association. The school served a historic African American neighborhood in Thomaston, as the only real educational opportunity for the area’s African-American population. This building has been abandoned since the 1970s, and has suffered from benign neglect. This was very close to where we needed to go. I wish I'd had the time to go to the Gee's Bend Quilt Museum and stroll the main street of Camden. We had a quick dinner a delightful place with their celebrated "C-O-B" (Chicken On Bun" and got ready for our event. Only thing I'd change is getting some ...

Really nice and practically brand new house. Had everything we needed except a grill so we just bought a portable charcoal grill. Host was great, neighbors were great! Had a great week in Camden.

This house was a great place to stay. We had an event in the Camden area, and this was the perfect place for our group. The house was well-equipped, comfortable and in a beautiful location. Be aware there is very little nearby. There is a grocery store, dollar general and CVS, so most basic needs ...
