Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima

Marokko

Medina - Chefchaouen, Morocco
It is known for the blue washed walls and doorways in the old city. Narrow alleys, cobbled walkways, stairs up and down, leading in all directions.

Chefchaouen's powder blue buildings mirror the cloudless Moroccan sky - but religious rather than stylistic reasons are behind the design choice. Jewish teachings suggest that by dyeing thread with tekhelel (an ancient natural dye) and weaving it into prayer shawls, people would be reminded of God's power. The tradition lives on in the regularly repainted blue buildings.

The walls are adorned with carpets, purses, blankets, paintings and much more. It was quite an adventure to get lost in the tiny lanes and alleys and discover the many berber shops and products.

A highlight of my trip to Morocco was a visit to the "blue city" of Chefchaouen, with its endlessly charming and overwhelmingly photographic blue streets. This particular location calls for significant patience as you wait for a steady stream of tourists to have their photo snapped on this picture perfect staircase, complete with tiny napping orange kittens.
The town of Chefchaouen, Morocco, sits at the foot of the Rif Mountains and draws tourists from around the world to wander through its charming and quiet blue streets. It's earned a reputation for being one of the prettiest towns in the country and you would really miss out on something special if Chefcahouen is not on your Morocco itinerary. This photo was taken on the path up to the old Spanish mosque that overlooks the town.
Totally worthy the visit to this enchanting village! I loved the particular doors, all in blue!
