We were a bit fearful of being washed out by the monsoon rains when we arrived in Mirissa during August. And then we were greeted by this.....! Beautiful sand, monster waves and windswept coconut trees combine to make this the perfect stop en route from Galle to Sri Lanka's east coast.

She became more than just staff to me; she became my friend, and I already miss her dearly. She arranged a surf class for me which was great, and also a private cooking class. Yes, the hotel itself is beautiful, and the view from the rooftop terrace is simply spectacular. But what truly made this place special was the people.
