Out of all of the pictures I took on safari, this one probably sums up the Serengeti more than any other. The vastness of the land is evident by this solitary lion taking shelter from the midday sun under the shade of an acacia tree. Our experience with visiting a Maasai village was a bitter sweet affair, although we did get interesting insights into their culture, tradition and beliefs. Maasai are famous for their jumping, which is a way for the guys to impress the ladies - Dave got some decent height so he had some good prospects in this village. It only costs 10 cows per wife (you can have as many as you like) - quite a bargain! One downer was that they just saw us as walking ATMs... We paid $50 USD to enter the village but when they realised that we didn't have any more cash with us to buy souvenirs from their 'shop' we quickly got escorted through the back door... #indigenouspeoplesday #Maasai #Tanzania #Africa #thewayfindings #travel #explore
