The Neighborhood:
Commonly known as “Foodie Row,” the Hawthorne/Buckman District puts you within walking distance of a wide variety of top-notch local flavors, with plenty of independent spots to explore! Make new friends over a bite at the Cartopia food cart pod, get messy with wings at Fire on the Mountain on East Burnside, or share a pie at Apizza Scholls.
Portland isn't just for foodies; the vibrant indie spirit of Hawthorne is alive with plenty of made-in-Oregon shops and boutiques to explore. Catch a movie at the Bagdad Theater and Pub, a revamped 1920s theater turned view-and-brew venue serving local McMenamins food and microbrews. If bar hopping through neighborhoods isn’t your idea of recreation, head up to Mt. Tabor, a 176-acre city park atop a dormant volcano vent, where you’ll find miles of hiking trails and incredible panoramic views of the city.
Getting Around:
🚶 Walking — This neighborhood sits between the Division and Hawthorne corridors, two of Portland's best streets for dining and shopping — both within easy walking distance.
🚌 Bus — TriMet Route 14 (Hawthorne/Foster) serves Hawthorne with service toward downtown. Check current schedules.
🚲 Biking — BIKETOWN bike-share is an option. Use Portland's bike-lane network to plan a route that suits your trip.
🚗 Driving — Public curb parking is subject to posted signs and open spaces. Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) is another option.
✈️ Airport — Allow for traffic when driving to PDX, or check TriMet for current bus and MAX Red Line airport connections.
