The Neighborhood:
You're in the heart of NW Portland — one of the most walkable neighborhoods in the city, and one of the best for eating and drinking your way through a trip.
NW 23rd Avenue is a few blocks away with restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques lining both sides of the street. Salt & Straw is right on 23rd for Portland's famous handmade ice cream. Ringside Steakhouse is a Portland institution — old-school and worth every penny. Bamboo Sushi keeps things lighter with sustainably sourced rolls and great cocktails.
Powell's City of Books is a short walk away — it's the world's largest independent bookstore and takes up an entire city block. Even if you're not a big reader, it's one of those Portland things you have to see.
When you want to get outside, Forest Park is practically in your backyard — one of the largest urban forests in the country with miles of trails through old-growth trees. The Japanese Garden and International Rose Test Garden are both nearby in Washington Park. And if you're visiting during soccer season, Providence Park is walking distance for Timbers and Thorns matches.
A few of our favorites nearby:
🍦 Salt & Straw — inventive seasonal ice cream (expect a line — worth it)
🥩 Ringside Steakhouse — a Portland classic since 1944
🍣 Bamboo Sushi — sustainable sushi and a great happy hour
📚 Powell's City of Books — an entire city block of books
🌲 Forest Park — urban hiking minutes from your door
⚽ Providence Park — catch a Timbers or Thorns match
NW Portland has its own personality — tree-lined streets, historic homes, and a neighborhood feel without sacrificing any of the restaurants and nightlife. Bus lines connect you to downtown in minutes, but honestly, most of what you'll want is walkable from the front door.
Getting Around:
🚶 Walking — The Nob Hill / Alphabet District is one of Portland's most walkable neighborhoods. NW 23rd and NW 21st avenues are lined with restaurants, boutiques, cafes, and bars — all within a few minutes' walk.
🚌 Bus — TriMet Route 15 (Belmont/NW 23rd) runs along NW 23rd Avenue with frequent service every 15 minutes to downtown (~10 min).
🚲 Biking — BIKETOWN bike-share stations nearby. Portland's extensive bike lane network makes cycling easy and safe throughout the city.
🚗 Driving — Street parking is available (read signs for time limits and meters). Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) typically arrives in under 5 minutes.
✈️ Airport — PDX is about 21 minutes by car or reachable via MAX Blue/Red Line from nearby Providence Park station.
