Salty Pause. When life gets hectic, it’s time to take that Salty Pause. We’re dog friendly so bring your beach-loving pooch & his Salty Paws too.

As you choose one of 3 Entrances into your Salty Pause, you notice that there are 2 Screened Porches & 2 Outdoor Decks (Newly Re Painted) (1 Covered/1 Open). From the Upper Screened Porch enjoy the Ocean View. The lower Screened Porch has a Table for Alfresco Dining or Playing games. Inside you find an Open Concept Living Area/Kitchen. With lots of Comfortable Seating in the Living Area you can Watch your favorite shows on Cable or Stream that Movie you’ve been wanting to see. If you are a Harry Potter fan (or never had the chance to see them), you will find the complete set of DVDs. There are some additional Movies including some younger Kid Oriented. There is a Wide Assortment of Puzzles & Games with a Large Coffee Table to play them on.

Too many cooks will spoil the pot is not applicable here. This Large Kitchen will allow all the Family Chefs to work together to make Memorable Meals. Cook on the Charcoal Grill & challenge your opponent to a game of Darts downstairs. Be sure to turn on the Light on the Scoreboard for an enhanced experience. The Bar in the Kitchen seats 4, the Dining area seats 6 & the table on the Screened Porch seats 4. There is a Highchair to sit the Little One. Make a pot of Drip Coffee & drink a cup sitting on the Front Deck to see why Southerners love their Front Porches with Rockers.

3 Bedrooms & a Loft sleep 11. On the Lower-Level Bedroom #1 has a King, Dresser/Closet & USB ports to charge your devices in the evenings. The 2nd Bedroom has 2 Full Beds, Dresser/Closet & USB Ports. As you ascend the stairs you find a little Reading Nook. In the Loft, there are 3 Twins in a Bunk style. Access to the Upper Front Deck from the Loft. Bedroom #3 is the Primary & has a King, USB Ports, Dresser & an Extra-Large Walk-In Closet. With Private Access to the Upper Back Screen Porch, you can sit in the Comfortable Seating & Enjoy an Ocean View. Between the Upper & Lower Sleeping Areas are Jack & Jill Baths with Rain Shower Heads in Tub/Shower combinations.

This cottage has Beach Chairs/Umbrella to take with you on the Short 3 Block Walk to the Sandy Ocean’s Edge. There are Bikes & Golf Carts available to rent on the Island if you want to go exploring. When you return, rinse off the Sand/Salt in the Outdoor Shower. Then toss all those Swimsuits & Towels into the Full-Sized Washer/Dryer to be ready for the next day’s fun. There is a nice Shady Natural Backyard (Fenced-In June 2023) & even a Bag Dispenser & Scooper to conclude your pup’s “business meeting”.

As you leave, you realize that you & your Salty Paws friend, both enjoyed your Salty Pause & will want to rebook for your Next Getaway.

Limit of 2 dogs -**A non-refundable $200 pet fee will be added to the booking for bringing a dog. If you break house rules and bring more than 2 dogs, a $500 pet fee will be charged. Dogs are NOT allowed on any furniture or beds. Failure to follow this will result in additional cleaning charges.

We had a great time for a long weekend - OKI is one of my favorite places to go! It was easy walk to the beach! The house was well designed for families and a dog wanting to be at the beach - kitchen layout was open and plenty of counter space for more than one cook being in the kitchen! Definitely would stay again!

Good time at Oak Island!

Had a really nice time at this property. Very spacious, clean, location was great. Only issue (not a big one) was the outdoor shower was crammed full of beach floats, toys, and other random stuff. Did not feel good about pulling all the stuff out and then reloading at the end of our visit. Again, not a biggie, but we would have enjoyed using the outdoor shower.

The home was clean, spacious and had everything you’d need! The owners were responsive and helpful as well and our dogs loved having a yard to play in. It was only a couple blocks from the beach which made it easy to walk there or drive on the days we had too much to carry.

Great location with a few fixable issues

Great house, great location!!! I love the check in process with having the code for door instead of worrying about keys. We had to wait to check in due to inspection team asking for the floors be cleaned again - I can't argue with that! The kitchen had all tools we needed for cooking, which was very helpful. We did have to leave early due to a few issues that made it unsafe for our dogs (med/large) - back porch and steps to backyard had nails sticking up and the motion sensor flood light on those back stairs did not work. The backyard was fully secure but there were some stumps sticking up along back fence that were potentially dangerous. We did find a hammer and tried fo fix some of the nails but most would require more than hammering them in to make them safe. All in all, a great house, just sad we had to leave early!

Perfect Family Vacation

We had a wonderful stay at Salty Pause. The house was very clean and well stocked with all the necessities. Short walk to the beach access which wasn’t crowded at all. Our dogs enjoyed the spacious fenced yard with shade trees. The screened porches were an added bonus! We will definitely stay here again!

Pretty Good

Communication and host were great — very nice and responsive! The house was pretty good — fit the whole family of 10 comfortably and is dog-friendly. Could use a bit of an upgrade and things like more dish towels and pot holders in kitchen. Outdoor shower didn’t have a good drain system so it caused a bit of a messy slipping hazard. But we enjoyed the darts downstairs and the fenced yard.

Super relaxing and convenient getaway

This house fit all our families needs perfectly! We had our family of four which included one teen and one preteen. We also had my sis and her husband and our parents, both with health/mobility issues. We also brought two dogs, one bigger and one small breed. Our small shitzu- yorkie mix did manage to squeeze through the fence and took off running because she got spooked by the neighbors dog. She came back pretty quickly though and we made sure to keep her on the leash from then on. The house had plenty of room for everyone to spread out, but also a great living room and dining area for us all to be together when we wanted. I did want to note that in the reviews previous, people mentioned that they needed window/door coverings in the loft where the bunk beds are. The owners did add curtains which was great! Not only does that help with the sun coming up in the morning but, it also helps to keep it cooler up there. My parents enjoyed rocking on the front porch in the morning and then moving to the screened in porch in the evening. The location of the house is great. It is close to lots of restaurants and grocery stores and even the pier. Also, the recreation center is close by so, we were able to rent a handicap wheelchair that could be wheeled onto the beach. There was a handicap access on 19th street which was also close to the house. Overall, we were super impressed with this house and we would definitely recommend staying here!

Loved our stay

Large, comfortable house; very clean. Easy walk to the beach. Loved loved loved the screen porch with direct access to the fenced in back yard, perfect for letting the dogs in and out. HUGE kitchen, would 100% stay again

Comfortable and spacious

We stayed at the Salty Pause for a family beach trip in October. We had a wonderful time! The home was clean and well stocked. We all loved the huge kitchen. There was plenty of space for different groups to hang out. The fenced in yard is so appreciated! I wanted to also note that they have added curtains to the loft window/doors! We came prepared to cover them for the kiddos, but it was a pleasant surprise to see that the reviews had been taken into consideration 😊 We had one issue with the downstairs tub being clogged when we arrived, but someone was out quickly to fix the issue. My only complaint is that the sheets and towels are washed with fabric softener/dryer sheets and it was an overpowering smell. As a result, I don't think the towels are very absorbent and made a couple of us breakout. I've never had an issue with noticing the laundering products at other places I've stayed, so I was surprised. Something that could be added to the home would be some basic cleaning supplies (for countertops and floors) and some kitchen hand towels.

Nice stay

Our family and grandparents stayed here for a week and it was very nice. The kitchen was especially nice as it was HUGE and well stocked (we even found a Bundt pan to make a cake!). The owners were responsive when we had an issue with the AC and resolved it quickly. Maybe the only criticism is that the 3 bunk beds are in an open loft area with no shades on the giant doors. If you're staying with kids, that means they will definitely be up super early wit the sun, and have no privacy. We rigged up a shade of sorts to help with that situation, but that was our only real surprise.

Nice house good location

The house was very clean and loved that the house allowed us to bring our dog. The fenced yard was a very nice perk! I would suggest adding blinds of some sort to the doors in the loft room. Very little privacy and the morning sun was abrupt. The mattresses on the bunk beds in the loft are made for small kids not really older kids or adults. Quite uncomfortable. Otherwise the house was nice and we enjoyed our stay!
