Mt Sinabung erupting in June 2015. The photo was taken from nearby Mt Simbayak, a dormant volcano, outside of Berastagi, Sumatra, Indonesia. The volcano is continuously erupting, and has been for the past few years, so trekking it is clearly not an option -which is something the guidebooks have not updated as far as we could tell since we had no idea it was erupting until we arrived with ash falling everywhere. Tip: ALWAYS google a volcano before you plan to trek it to make sure it has not erupted. Learn from our mistake!
