Awful experience — I would strongly advise against booking.
We booked Royal Art H for its location, with activities planned nearby, but were placed approximately 1.2 miles away and had to use public transport to reach the area we had booked. Reception is separate from the rooms, which appear to be scattered across the city.
At check-in, we paid €39 tourist tax, which we understood. We were also required to pay a €200 deposit online and told the refund could take 30 working days.
We were then charged another €59 without a clear explanation. This HAD to be paid in cash. When I asked to use a credit card because we had no cash, the receptionist said, “No cash, no stay.” An unexplained cash charge made a condition of staying is unacceptable.
Breakfast was advertised as included, but none was provided. Our accommodation was simply a room off a dark corridor, in an area where we felt uncomfortable.
Most concerningly, we returned after the cleaner’s visit to find our room had been left unlocked. Thankfully, nothing was missing, but leaving our belongings unsecured was unacceptable.
The receptionist was rude and unhelpful. The location change, unexplained charges, missing breakfast and poor security made this a deeply disappointing stay. I would not book again. KEEP CLEAR
