Hayley messaged me on the VRBO app at 8.40pm on Thursday. I hadn't seen the message when at 8.48pm VRBO customer support phoned me to say she had not been able to get in touch with me so had phoned them for help. They then connected me to her on the phone. She told me the oven in the flat didn't work. She said it had blown the fuse for the whole flat 3 times. She said had spent £55 on pizzas from the supermarket and asked if I would pay for a takeaway. I agreed to pay for one takeaway on Thursday evening. After her stay she sent receipts for 2 takeaways on different evenings and the second was for 6 people when there were only 4 people staying. She subsequently complained about the WiFi not working, that the patio door was jammed and that the toilet seat was broken. I went round to the flat after she left to check on these things. The oven worked fine, I tested it thoroughly. I also found evidence of several things she had clearly cooked in the oven - there were empty food packets in the bin and even a matching bit of food on the floor of the oven. So her claim that she had not used the oven all weekend was clearly untrue. The WiFi worked fine, I worked from there all day and there were no issues. The patio door opened fine- it was not even slightly stiff. She had also left both sets of patio doors unlocked. She had also broken the toilet seat- I checked with the cleaner and it wasn't broken prior to her stay. At the end she also complained about the lack of a welcome guide - I assume she forgot that the instructions for the keybox and entry details she had used were in the welcome guide she had been sent prior to arriving. I think she invented issues in order to try to get me to pay for her meals. I had taken her at her word when I spoke to her on the phone because I'm generally a trusting person. I'm not sure if she didn't expect me to check whether what she said was true and just pay her but when I discovered what she had said was untrue I refused to refund her the cost of the takeaway. My number is available via the app and I always try to respond as promptly as possible. She felt the need to involve VRBO customer support when she had my phone number and could have phoned me or messaged me directly.
