When you head down this ridge as far sanity dictates, you turn your attention south and this is what you'll see. Of course, you continue on, because the dictates of sanity are more or less just suggestions when you've climbed to the highest spot within ten miles of everything you see. But the trail heads down from here, and within a mile is swallowed back into the forest. Take my advice and use the time instead to take in as much as you can of this beautiful view.

Gingko Petrified Forest is noted as being one of the "most unusual fossil forests in the world" and is a national natural landmark. The Interpretive Center is full of information about the petrified woods discovered in the early 1930s, has living gingko trees and breathtaking views of the Columbia River. #roadtrip #statepark #geology
