We were offered a free ride to nearest train station when we left, which was great. The only thing that was a little strange and which we have never experienced in Japan, was that we were not allowed to enjoy any drink or food we brought with us. There was no mention of this on the booking, only after we had arrived.»

It was amazing to get in whenever we wanted, but it may be unnecessary depending on your budget since their public (hotel guests only) open air baths are so spectacular. Our onsen was on a little portio with view of a green hill. Dinner and breakfast are buffets with a wide range of delicious meals. The hotel seemed to be pretty poplular among locals. »

Although it is a little out of the way and up an incline, there are multiple frequent transport options and even a shuttle bus which can take you back and forth from Gora Station. «Booked this Ryokan for two nights. Pick-up was smooth at Gora station. Got a traditional 8 tatami room with separate seating area and nice view over the valley. Staff was very attentive and the food simply amazing. Both breakfast and kaiseki dinner had a great variety, were freshly made and locally sourced. The hotel is situated a convenient 100 meters from the Sounzan Hakone cable car station. »
