Indigenous Khanty man. Along with the Nenets and Komi, the Khanty practice large-scale intensely nomadic reindeer herding. The way of life of the three groups is very similar, but they have different languages and religions.
The Yamal Peninsula in Arctic Siberia is the only place in the Arctic where nomadic reindeer herders have completely preserved their traditional culture. They dress in clothing made of reindeer fur and sewn using reindeer tendon as thread, they live in chums (tepees) made of 120 reindeer hides and they migrate up to 2000km each year on hand-carved wooden reindeer-drawn sledges.
