Imber Church
Site of former Heytesbury station. View NW, towards Westbury: ex-GWR (Bristol etc.) - Westbury - Salisbury secondary main line. The station was closed 19/9/55, but the line remains an important link to Southampton etc. from Bristol and South Wales.

This is a tiny village that is now part of a military training ground and can only be accessed a few times a year. It was evacuated in WW2 with the promise that the residents could go back after the war and when the military were finished using it, they were never allowed back. Most of the original village is gone, this is what remmains of the school house #lifeatexpedia
The only reason you are still allowed access to Imber is to see the church for s few services each year. Lovely setting #lifeatexpedia

Apartment was very clean and well kept. Bed was comfortable with a great bathroom. Very central location, great for exploring Bath. Some noise around 7am when they deliver towels to the Spa next door, but otherwise quiet, as it's on side street/no through road.

#lksawaydays 2/2020. 12th of January is someone's birthday....Happy 125th Birthday to the National Trust 🎂 to celebrate we decided to visit one of their sites. After living in the South West for the last 18 years we realised we had never visited Stourhead! Perfect! only 22 miles away too. We arrived at a quiet car park at approx 09:30am and duly paid the £4 daily charge. Stourhead House itself was closed for the winter and opens again in March, but the large garden and grounds are open all year round, If you are not a National Trust member then it will cost you £11.60 per adult. Stourhead House was built between 1721-1724 by the renowned Scottish architect Colen Campbell with the gardens following shortly after in 1741, the path you follow around the Garden mimics the journey of the Trojan hero Aeneas and his descent to the underworld. The large garden has many sculptures and buildings of which many stay with the Greek theme from the Grotto to the Temple of Apollo to the Pantheon as well as other 'themed' buildings such as the Gothic Cottage and the Temple of Flora. Along the paths you will see other paths/tracks leading off in other directions if you follow these you will see the Obelisk, St Peters Pump or slightly further afield King Alfreds Towers. After a good couple of hours of stretching the legs you can finish off in the Spread Eagle for a pint!

West Lavington from Strawberry Hill 452274 gives a view of West Lavington from a different direction. 'It lies far away from the coming and going of the great busy world,' wrote an inhabitant in 1875. Today, and for many decades, the great busy world speeds along the A360 from Salisbury to Devizes and threads its way precipitously through the chicane formed by the churchyard and the almshouses. In fact the main road spends about 8km in West Lavington parish, from the high downland south of Gore, the 'buried village of Salisbury Plain', past Gore Cross, where it is intersected by an important ridgeway, down a long descent beside landscaped woodland (known as The Warren) and into the pleasant valley where the village sits, then along some 2km of ribbon development associated with the linear village of Littleton Pannell, before leaving the parish north of the railway bridge. This journey is familiar to most Wiltshire travellers, and even without realising that chalk is giving way to Greensand and clay, many must feel as they pass along that here south Wiltshire ends and west Wiltshire begins" All this and more in: http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/community/getconcise.php?id=237
