Hotels prefer you book directly, and as we're silver with Hilton, we understand this.
That said, we had Expedia credit to use, so we booked that way.
1. Upon arrival, they couldn't find our reservation. Once that was sorted out, (apparently the system checked us in and shouldn't have?) our digital key wasn't working, despite the key request showing in the Hilton app.
We were told it was because we booked 3rd party. But that wasn't what Hilton chat customer service said when we asked how to make sure the reservation was in the app. They said it was in the app and the key would work.
The employee at the front desk, Bryan, said he'd look into it for us. When we came back by the front desk about an hour later and asked about the key, he looked at us blankly. You'd think, had he actually tried to fix the issue, he'd remember. Got it, no effort made.
We always drink the water in the room. This time we were charged. I called the hotel to ask what was going on. First I was told it's because the room confirmation wasn't in their system so they didn't have our Silver status.
Ok, so which is it? Either the confirmation is in your system to try to resend us the digital key, or it's not in the system so you charged us for the water. It can't be both.
It can when the hotel staff makes it clear that as you booked third party, they are barely tolerating you. If you don't want Expedia bookings, don't allow them. But in this case, you treated an Honors Silver member like a nuisance.
