«A truly exceptional place to stay. The room was clean, comfortable and well-equipped with a lovely balcony, and the staff were very friendly. Fresh towels and toiletries were attentively refilled on the second day even without us requesting. The breakfast was delicious too, there were beautiful flowers and trees in the garden behind the restaurant. Both our baby and our dog enjoyed their time there.»

«An enjoyable one night stay at a hotel where the positive features far outweigh any minor niggles. Attentive and pleasant staff, excellent food, well presented and served in a timely manner. Rooms just bordering on the need for some love and attention, although White Stuff toiletries do a good job in diverting attention from the nasty stain on one of the seats. Decent enough spa facilities, although it would be helpful if the price to swim were included in the booking price.»

«We had a very nice overnight stay at the Crown. Staff were kind & welcoming on arrival, the room was clean and comfortable and well appointed, we had dinner in the restaurant which was really nice, drinks were a big pricey but I guess that's hotel pricing. Breakfast was really good, freshly prepared and very tasty. All in all really good, the only minor negative was the dated bathroom in our room, however the shower was really good, powerful and plenty of hot water so, does that really matter? »

«So terrible we walked in and walked out again, drove around to find a different hotel! This hotel gave me the creeps, like something out of a horror movie with an American hostel feel. We arrived late (10 ish pm) and despite the hotel being quite quiet our room was given to us and was one of the last rooms down a long dark corridor at the back of the building. «Paid for a suite , room itself was lovely and large , beautiful bathroom. When we arrived at the room in the afternoon all the bedroom curtains were closed , including the ones to the outdoor balcony. Once we opened them we realised why …… a massive building project , scaffolding etc literally metres away from our room , so much for the garden view . Room was looking a bit tired cosmetically but still lovely , house keeping must only clean from eye level down as when I got into bed the ceiling ...

«Lovely clean room with a nice bathroom. Perfect for a short stay. Came with tea/coffee, a television and free WI-FI. No mini fridge. We didn't need one so it wasn't an issue. Breakfast was lovely with a choice of hot food and a continental breakfast. No road noise or unusual bumps in the night so had a wonderful, peaceful sleep. Useful parking at the rear of hotel and easy access to the town of Thirsk. Overall a lovely stay. Lovely staff. Lovely food and a lovely part of the world. »

«Place was good overall, the doors are incredibly noisy and slam every time you go through them (which if you go to the loo in the night not only wakes up your partner but I imagine the people sleeping on the neighbouring apartments) and the windows dont seem like that have ever been cleaned. «Easy check in procedure door code gets you into the building and room. Spacious room with modern kitchen and bathroom, well stocked tea/coffee etc and good hot water supply. Warm rooms and well stocked towels and bedding , only drawback is due to its location you get some noise and guests turning up at stupid o'clock in the morning. On the whole if you can get this for a good price its well worth it »

"Gammelt ærverdig hotell, rett ved togstasjonen (ingen støy), rett utenfor bymuren til York. Nært å gå til gamlebyen i York. Vi fikk tilbud om oppgradering av rommet, og det var det verdt. Stort, romslig rom, med badekar og flott utsikt mot katedralen. Vestibylen og trappegangen var imponerende. Hotellet er forholdsvis godt vedlikeholdt, men man merker at hotellet har vært der en stund, selv om det ikke fremstår slitt på noen måte. Betjeningen var serviceinnstilt, hjelpsom og hyggelige og rommet fremsto som rent og pent. Frokosten kunne gjerne inneholdt litt bredere utvalgt, men dette er en personlig smak (hadde gjerne sett bredere utvalg av oster, pålegg, etc). Eneste skuffelsen var at bassenget var midlertidig stengt når vi var der (men slike ting skjer vel). Fikk også prøvd treningsrommet, og det var bra. Et hotell det er lett å anbefale, og som har et litt historisk "schwung" over seg. "
