The pool was not open and no where was it mentioned when it was opened. Disappointed by that. Also feces on the wall of our bathroom, and put in a handicapped room and never notified of that. Beds were also very hard. Had I not paid for two nights would not had stayed the second night.

It is old building with floors creaking. My room was close to exit and everytime door opened or closed, it made a lot of noise. Don't go by the photos on website.

Lots of Cockroaches, smells of stale cigarettes and hard drugs, sheets stained with feces and blood. Front desk made us aware the owner pretends to be the "manager" leaving comments online like "so sorry, we will do better" but never actually fixes the situation. Do not take your families here, lots of drug addicts wandering about. Every indication its a drug haven.

We were on our second day of driving back home from Florida and started looking for a place to get some sleep near Salem. We were exhausted and booked this place a few hours upon our arrival and shortly after the booking, we realized it was the wrong Salem. Which is obviously my mistake. We contacted Expedia who tried to see if the hotel would waive the fee, it was only 20 mins after the cut off time in that time zone and even though I was on the other side of the country, and only had booked it a few hours prior, they refused to waive the nightly cost. I understand they have policies and it was my mistake, but I’m shocked by the lack of compassion and reason they had. It’s not like I had this booked a month ago and tried to cancel last minute. I usually don’t leave bad reviews, but I feel this warranted an exception. Overall awful customer service.

Staff members were incredibly nice. Just a few things about the room we stayed in. 1) brown stains on bottom fold of bed sheet on one of the beds. 2) sink in bathroom was leaking from the left side. I had to keep towels next to it to make sure it didn't get onto my belongings. But overall, our stay went well, as I mentioned the staff were very kind and helpful.

This hotel is pretty average, nothing fancy. The free breakfaet is waffles, stale bread and bagels, bananas or apples, or plain cheereos with questionable milk. The room we were in had weird red and orange stains on the pillows and lampshade, the bathroom door didnt close and the floors were covered in dirt. Im pretty disappointed with this stay. Ive stayed here 5 other times and never had an issue but i guess this will be the last time.

A bit expensive. I feel pretty safe here and the rooms are decent. This time microwave didn't work very well and neighbors smoked so it stank. Another sink doesn't drain well but shower head was awesome 😎. Beds fairly comfy. Wish it was about $20 a night less... One of the best places I stay in Salem. It's convenient for where I need to go when I'm there. Staff are nice.

room was okay but no instructions on how to operate TV. A lot of noise in the hallway, and someone was vacuuming the hallway. The bed was worn out on the left side, just not a good stay, Maybe should have went to a Motel 6, it may have been better. First time I have been to a Howard Johnson in years, I think they where right up there with Best Westener, but not any more. Will not stay at another

A good place to stay nothing fancy but it covers your needs, breakfast ok. Clean. I wish they had a source of protein for breakfast eggs (boiled) peanut butter, and just a little bit stronger coffee it was very very light, and I don’t drink strong coffee.

It obviously is an older hotel. You could hear people in other rooms talking. The breakfast they offer is probably the worst I've encountered as there was very little to choose from. In addition, the TV was hooked up to some streaming service and it was difficult to find anything to watch. On the plus side, the water pressure in the shower was great.

It's fine during the day, but in the evening there's loud people going up and down the halls yelling. Walls are so thin you hear everything in everyones room. Floors not cleaned when houskeeping comes in, and there was further proof when my dogs bone slid under a nighstand, and I found drug paraphernalia from whoever stayed before. First night here there was a homeless guy hanging out at a side exit door until late. The longer you stay the lazier the houskeeping staff gets. Check in was fine though.

The owner tried to ripe me off by saying that I could get a better deal with him instead of going online when I added it up the online was cheaper then what he was offering me. And I'm a single mom with 2 kids waiting for my apartment to be ready that's a low blow for someone who owns the place taking advantage of a single mom waiting for there place to be ready.

Liz the night check-in guru was great and personable. Always a bonus to meet someone who does more than what job requirements probably are. Howard Johnson’s would do well to clone her or at the very least give her a raise. This property is fairly dated but clean and comfortable in almost a vintage boho style. Plus has undoubtedly unused in 20-30 years vintage ironing boards and irons conveniently mounted to the wall. Can’t find that just anywhere and bound to impress the kids! Throw in a tiny pool and breakfast and your all set for about 1/2 what other local places are charging.

Homeless sleeping in the bushes outside around the parking area was a little bothersome but the hotel and staff were nice

Not even cockroaches would stay here.
Place was dirty, dried blood on walls and tissue dispenser, brown stains on pillows and pillow cases. Dried brown stains on lamps. Floors sticky. Asked if i could get a different room was told none available. Asked if i could check out ws told i would still be charged.
