This was a lovely cottage, which had everything required for a stay with dogs. The enclosed garden was a plus as it meant the dogs could be safely let out.I would highly recommend this cottage for couples or a family to enable you to explore the Peaks National Park.
Lovely cottage full of character in a stunning location. Very central for visiting the Peak District towns and attractions and it's stunning countryside. The cottage is well equipped and was very clean. Very pet friendly with an enclosed garden and yard. There is also an enclosed field for dogs to use, but unfortunately the grass was too long for our scottie/westie cross to negotiate. She enjoyed her walks down the lanes though. There is a brewery /bar just down the lane at a local farm, which is open on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer season, which was an added bonus!Nigel is a very helpful and attentive host and answered any queries we had very promptly.
We had a fantastic weeks stay in the Old Coach House. The cottage is set in a beautiful location with a beautiful courtyard and garden, which I can confirm is indeed FULLY SECURE! The cottage had everything in it we needed and everything worked perfectly. It was a comfortable stay and probably the best set up for our two dogs to enjoy as they settled in from the moment we arrived. Nigel, the host, was there to greet us on arrival. He was very friendly and ensured we had everything we needed during our stay. The wider family live around onsite, who too were very friendly. They had lovely children who my children made friends with very quickly. The cottage is perfectly located, being centrally placed between The Peak District and the Derbyshire Dales. We covered 180k steps that week, with plenty around to see and do, it truly was a fantastic holiday! If you want a comfortable and central ‘base’ in this area, then pick The Old Coach House. We will definitely be back, thanks again Nigel!
A lovely week in the Peak District countryside in a small country village. The cottage was everything we wished for, centrally located between the larger towns that we visited over the week that we stayed. Wonderful hosts that made us welcome.
warm cosy and inviting beautiful views in peaceful quietl location off beaten track but easy access to the beauty spots nearby loving cared for by excellant host
Lovely cottage situated around idyllic green fields, sheep etc. Comfortable, has all the essentials you could need, and close to lots of peak district walks and attractions such as matlock, bakewell etc. Our Family had a great time. Really nice and helpful owner. Overall great stay. Thank you!
Just had a wonderful stay at this cottage. Nigel and family were so friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, but also enjoyed the owls hooting and cows mooing. It was perfect. We visited the brewery in the village and really enjoyed it. Lots of places to visit including Bakewell, Matlock, Buxton, Stepping Stones at River Dove.
Lovely old building in a fabulous location with everything we needed inside and enclosed garden outside plus use of the grass field behind for the dogs to walk and play in. Nigel the owner and all of his family there on the surrounding farm were very welcoming and friendly, good communications prior to arriving after booking, thank you for an enjoyable stay.
Lovely cottage,
has everything you need for a quiet getaway.
Host is really nice and the area is lovely.
We had two dogs with us and they loved the enclosed field to run around in.
The surrounding villages are nice to visit and plenty of pubs and public trails to check out.
All in all a perfect holiday.
We Will be coming back.
We had a really enjoyable stay and Nigel is a brilliant host. Everything that you need is in the property and Nigel is very helpful. The children loved the 'walled garden' and the dog loved the private field. Will definitely return..
We had a wonderful time at Nigel's cottage in Aldwark
A week in the October half term with our 2 boys, 10 and 12 and the dog.
Nigel and his family made us feel so welcome, loaded us up with firewood for the wood burner and gave us great tips for dog friendly walks
We had brilliant weather and did a couple of big hikes on the Peaks as well as just enjoying the cottage and the fields behind
Thank you Nigel, we will be back, Anna and Family
Property was as listed and had read several reviews . Perfect for 2 adults and our dog, fenced off garden so we relax knowing our dog was safe. Rural location but only 20 minutes or less to Buxton, 15 to ashbourne, matlock or bakewell. Several local pubs but check online opening times especially if you would like food.
Wonderful stone converted coach house, very cosy, helpful owner, lots of bits and bobs in the cupboards, everything thought of, good sized rooms too… great facilities and a huge amount of logs and kindling supplied for the wood burner. Heating system worked brilliantly when we needed it as we were snowed in last two days. The perfect place to walk from direct, We found wonderful walks from our doorstep. Very peaceful and quiet setting. Highly recommended - thanks Nigel!
Having just returned from our trip we felt we should share our experience and also give anyone looking to book a few insights which might be useful. All the pre arrival communication was great and Nigel is a lovely host. The cottage reminded us of staying at a grand parents house and what we mean by that is that the property has a very cosy feel and all the items in the kitchen are mix and match items which is unlike what alot of properties we have stayed in are like. Different knifes and forks and plates etc, it feels like the items in the cottage have been collected over a life time. There is a small tv in the front room but we watched streaming service etc so no issues there. They also have a nice late 90's / early 2000's hi fi system with tape deck and vinyl which was kind of cool.Upstairs there is no tv in the main bedroom so if you like to watch tv before sleeping you will need to consider your own solution but we had our laptop so no problems there. One area that was a minor nusance was that the water pressure is very low so as someone that likes a bath over showers i would have had to wait a very long time to run a bath so in the end we just stuck to showers.Lots of labels around the property to let you know what to do or where things are and you are pretty much left alone to enjoy your holiday. It is in an area with about 10 other properties and thats it...nothing else nearby.Nice place, very quiet and peaceful
We had a really great time here. Going anywhere with 2 young boys is always a worry with how suitable it would be, but The Coach House was perfect. They absolutely loved the bunk beds and the play area outside. We had more than enough space for the 4 of us. The cottage was well equipped for us to self cater for the week and it was lovely and clean. The location is perfect for exploring the Peak District including Matlock and Matlock Bath which is where we would also go to the supermarket. Nigel was an excellent host and really made us feel very welcome as well as the great family next door. We had a great holiday and are looking forward to the returning in the future. Thank you!
