Friendly staff and great breakfast
First time in a Ryokan 😊 Staff very friendly, breakfast was a great experience with lots of new, and for us, exotic tastes. Room was clean. Slept well on futons. The building had not been renovated for a while, but for us that was not important. Tatami mats were clean and fresh looking. Located right next to Gion and lots of sights, safe and quiet area. Did not use the onsen, as I have tattoos and were unsure about their policies on that.

Four of us stayed for one night only at Gion Ryokan Karaku ( half board) The Kaiseki dinner was amazing! Beautiful presentation of food and staff were very attentive. The location of Gion Ryokan Karaku is very central. Just a couple of minutes away from Yatasa Shrine and an easy 15 minutes walk to Kiyomizu Dera temple. We would recommend this Ryokan to anyone who enjoys good food and service

The building and the rooms don’t have much character. The food was pretty good. The location is great: It’s very close to Shijo Kawaramachi and Gion. If you’re looking for authentic Japanese experience, I would pick a different place - a more traditional ryokan. There’s no public bath either. The staff was nice.

Excellent hosts. Rooms very clean and well maintained. You need to be comfortable sleeping on tatami mat floor on a futon but it was part of the experience in visiting Japan for us. We did not try the food as we wanted to explore the cuisine in the town. Great location that was walkable to many sites and the shopping district and easily accessible to transit.

We had an amazing experience at the Ryokan Karaku. The room was big and in excellent conditions, breakfast was superb and the staff was super attentive. Walking distance from Gion and Ponto-chō. Definitely recommended.

Wonderful stay, excellent service, and the soaking tub with views in our suite room was so relaxing! Highly recommended for a ryokan stay while in Kyoto. Quick walk to nearby shrines and temples, and strolling through Ninenzaka streets.

This property is in a great location - you can easily walk to many shrines, Gion and the subway stations. Public transport is very good for getting to all sites. I thought the dinner option was a bit pricey. I really enjoyed my stay and would return.

Conveniently located in the heart of the historical area Gion. We were walking distance to Yasaka shrine, Kodaji Temple, and a short hike to Kiyomizu-dera. The ryokan is spotless and service is excellent. Would definitely stay here again.

Kyoto in Perfection!
This ryokan exceeded our expectations! We stayed 2 nights in the karaku room with the bath tub which was a large room. We slept like rocks after long days in Kyoto. I would not hesitate for a second to stay here again. Next time we will do the kaiseki dinner. The staff was extremely polished and professional. So courteous and caring. An absolutely immaculate ryokan!

Great area. It take some walk to get to the place from nearest Gion Keihan train station. Ryokan is very nice but noises from other floors can be easily heard. Also there was no heater, only AC so it was very cold at night

Staffs are friendly and helpful. My wife puts a seat cushion under her pillow to elevate her head. When we come back in the evening, they have put another pillow for my wife. Housekeeping is very detail oriented. Also the dinner is very good. Got a chance to experience what Kyoto kaiseki is.

Loved loved loved this property. The staff was extremely accommodating. They let us check in 2 hours before time. They spoke really good english as well which was a bonus for us. The rooms were very spacious and clean all the way around. Loved the Ryokan interior as it gave a more traditional feel. Finally the property is a 10 minute walk from local restaurants and a 15 minute walk from Gion District (a city like feel). If I had a redo, I would've stayed longer in this hotel/location.

The breakfast and dinner that was provided by the hotel was absolutely amazing! The food completely blew me away. Staff was also very kind and attentive. It was a lovely stay for me and my family

Utterly serene ryokan in the middle of historic Gion. Wonderful staff, attentive and caring. Fantastic view from the fourth floor karaku suites. Strong air conditioning. We were very happy there.
