Perched on Kauai's southernmost bluff, Makahuena is a sought-after oceanside resort known for its dramatic coastal views and peaceful setting. Makahuena 4205 is a well-appointed 2-bedroom, 2-bath single-level condo located on the second floor (stairs required), offering comfort, privacy, and easy access to Poipu's beaches and attractions.

The primary suite features a California king bed and a private ensuite bathroom. The guest bedroom offers two twin beds that may be converted to a king with advance request, plus a full guest bath with tub/shower combo. The fully equipped kitchen showcases granite countertops, Sapele mahogany cabinetry, and stainless steel appliances—perfect for preparing island-inspired meals. Portable A/C units in the living room and guest bedroom help keep you cool and comfortable.

Construction Notice: Active construction is occurring on a neighboring property and may cause occasional noise or partial obstruction of existing island and ocean views. Rental rates have been adjusted accordingly.

Great end unit with excellent view from balcony. A/C worked well but did not adequately reach the main bedroom. Unit was clean and everything else worked well. Location is excellent especially since it was our first time in Kauai. Sunset benches were nice to sit while watching the sun set. Needed more cleaning rags in the kitchen (dish rag). Washer and dryer were great. Availability of beach equipment was great but one umbrella was broken. Overall great place

The property manager/host was great. He was very responsive and allowed an earlier check in, which was appreciated. The condo does NOT have AC. This was my first issue. It is a portable unit that in no way cools 900 sq.ft. It also had a torn hose that was blowing the hot air back in. We turned it off and opened all the windows to use the breeze, which it is BREEZY/WINDY. The owner needs to do so serious remodeling. The pergo floor are a mess, the furniture and drapery are filthy, packing tape was holding the master bedroom drapery rod together, slider that is VERY difficult to open, holes in the slider screens and peeling paint falling on the floor from around the windows. The host said the filthyness of the sofas and drapery was due to the construction going on next door and the blowing dirt from the very windy conditions. Makes sense. However, if appropriate/working AC was in the unit guests would not have to keep the windows open to stay cool. The location is FANTASTIC. Super close to Poipu beach. The complex itself, even though it could use a refresh, had beautiful views. We saw turtles in the alcove by the pool area.

Great location, AC not sufficient

Nice location close to Poipu beach and with a nice balcony overlooking the ocean. We were there in the summer and the AC (two portable units) was undersized. The unit (especially the master) felt warmer than the outside, even with the AC running. I was very warm at night which made it difficult to sleep. They could just have put a couple of floor fans in or an AC in the master, which I see a few other people have already commented on.

Was the perfect place!

We loved our stay and the unit was great! Spacious, clean, a great ocean view with only a 10 min walk to the beach! It came with all of the amentities we needed and more! The property manager was great and the only thing we contacted him/her about was the TV and they fixed it right away! Would definitely stay here again and recommend it!

Southernmost Point of Kauai

Great condo close to Poipu Beach! We were able to see turtles on the beach each evening/morning. Complex has a nice path along the coastal cliff to watch the waves crash and turtles swim by. Would happily stay here again. Thx for sharing the unit with us!

Basic, met needs

The unit needs to be cleaned well and updated. It has a sunrise view, probably nicer before the recent construction. Sunset views can be had within the property. The complex is nicely maintained. Kitchen supplies were adequate, more mixing bowls, tupperware containers and a tea kettle would be nice additions. The smoke detector was beeping. Mgmt did not respond to text. Lightbulbs burned out. Drapes and sofa were dirty. Window in secondary bedroom is broken, did not open. Water and sun damage to flooring. Lots of corroded fixtures, likely due to salt air. These units are selling for over a million dollars, this unit could be quite luxurious with a refresh. Also, damage deposit required, not in initial rental agreement.

Quite place with great views

Stayed for a long weekend and the place was everything we needed. The apartment was clean and had all the essentials we needed for our stay. The property was easy to access and had ample parking. Fantastic property. Has everything you need. Comfy beds, comfy couches, big bedrooms, well equipped kitchen, lovely decor, great stereo system with provided CDs to keep you in the Hawaiian mood, incredible ocean views and tennis/pickle ball/pool and hot tub amenities are excellent.

Sunrises over the ocean

We will really miss having our morning coffee and evening cocktails on the balcony watching sunrises and sunsets. We even saw the occasional whale spouts. The ocean view condo is in a great location. Walking trail starts next to complex. Wonderful beaches are quick drive. Staying and hanging at the lovely pool and jacuzzi is another great option. Don't forget to smell the plumeria on the way to pool. The unit is comfortable with a kitchen set up with what you need to make meals in unit. The smart, big screen TV is great when taking break from sun or evening entertainment. The trade winds keep the unit cool most days, but on calm days, the ACs came in handy. Be sure to point the living room one toward main bedroom and put ceiling fans on to distribute the cool air. The unit has some basics for laundry, dishes etc. and there is a nice cordless vacuum in the second bedroom closet. The unit is a bit dated, but it was very comfortable for us. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely Apartment

We enjoyed our stay and it is a very nice apartment. Take note: there are 2 portable air conditioners. One in the living room and the other in the second bedroom. It was warm in the main bedroom. Also up and down steps to get to the apartment. Note that for luggage movement. The location is excellent. The apartment is next to a hiking trail that was right next to the ocean and very beautiful. There’s a beach 5 minutes drive away where turtles and seals rest. Kauai is a beautiful and expensive island.

Mixed feelings

We liked the apartment and location very much. The apartment was clean, however, the windows and curtains, and the mirror behind the couch were not clean at all. We were not able to clearly see the outside. The screen of the window in the master bedroom was broken. So, we did not open the lower part of the window. The skirt around the master bed was dirty. The dishwasher did not clean the dishes; I finally stopped using it. Probably the filters need to be cleaned. There was no rinse agent for the dishwasher. Sand from towels or bags from the third floor covered the tables and chairs on the balcony twice. The dishes and utensils in the kitchen were sufficient; I like to have some more forks and knives, also a water heater for preparing tea would be good. We would consider booking this place again if the windows and curtains were clean. Thanks

Better than expected

This is a very nice property with a great view of the sea! We awoke to a beautiful sunrise every morning. It has everything we need that made our first visit to Kauai one of the best vacations we've ever had. We also felt safe during our stay.

Perfect

The house was immaculate, generously stocked, and conveniently located where we could enjoy stunning sunsets, visit the giant turtles at their overnight hang-out on Poipu Beach, choose from many restaurants, and walk to the nearby hotel beach. I did not need to contact the hosts for anything (which is more than I can say about the other two places I rented for my three-island Hawaii trip). I would love to stay here again.

Property was clean. Had everything we needed for the stay. The property is an old building. It could use the addition of an exhaust vent in the bathrooms. Could not find the light switch( if there was any) to the outside terrace.

Great location, comfortable stay, great property managers

This property was a great value. Had everything needed for comfort. I was under the impression that the portable A/C unit in living room could be used in master bedroom at night, but that is not the case. We were comfortable with the windows open in the master bedroom and use of ceiling fan at night. The A/C unit in the second bedroom works great. The property management company was very responsive. The property itself was undergoing some maintenance on the balconies. It did not affect our use or stay. Just looked a little under construction. A new housing development is going in next door. Construction noise during the day, but not at night. We were typically out and about during the day, so that did not affect us, but could affect others if staying in the unit during the day. Overall, this was a perfect location for our needs.
