Point Vernon is the largest rocky promontory on the coast between Noosa and Bundaberg. The suburb is quiet and out of the way from major roads, but just minutes to the centre of town and the gateway to Maryborough, Bundaberg and surrounds. From the beautiful Gatakers Bay, with its esplanade overlooking a number of picnic and swimming areas, to the offshore coral reef, popular with snorkelers, tidal rock pools and Purple Park, a popular family playground that is protected from the road. The park has toilet and barbecue facilities and plenty of off-street parking.
Point Vernon is a good starting point for the Hervey Bay Esplanade Trail, which hugs the stunning coastline for over 16 kilometres between Gatakers Bay and the Urangan Boat Harbour.
