My stay at RUI Palace Costa Rica was average overall. The property is clearly outdated and in need of a major remodel. Rooms and common areas feel worn and do not reflect the standards expected from a “Palace” resort. The food was below average, with inconsistent quality. Access to the specialty restaurants required waiting in long lines (first come first serve only). There are no reservation system —guests should not have to spend vacation time standing in line. While the staff were courteous and friendly, they often provided incorrect or conflicting information regarding access of other RUI restaurants and resort policies, which caused confusion throughout our stay. Overall, this resort did not meet expectations. Without significant renovations, improved food quality, and a better restaurant reservation system, I would not recommend RUI Palace Costa Rica.

El peor hotel que he ido en Costa Rica all inclusive de todas las marcas que hay!!. Te dejan entrar al hotel después de la 1:30( no gasten el tiempo de ir temprano) obligan a toda la gente hacer fila por las afueras, bajo un calor. Vinimos con un grupo grande en familia y para la desgracia si ocupas ir al baño (que caminar como un 1km) solo dejan ir de 2 en 2 personas. Nos dejaron entrar al lobby para esperar porque veníamos con un bebé, pero tampoco nos dejaron hacer el check in antes, y justamente en ese momento vimos como varios extranjeros hacían el check in sin ningún problema. Hicimos la queja pero la excusa de ellos fue que los extranjeros tenían un itinerario, que ellos no ven la hora del check in ósea que pobre la excusa que se inventaron. Las maletas lo tuvimos que llevar nosotros mismos porque después de esperar 2-3 horas aún no estaban en nuestros cuartos, mientras que el mismo muchacho encargado de llevarlas ni estaba ocupado. El ventilador de nuestro cuarto estaba averiado, nos hospedamos 4 días ahí y nunca llegaron a solucionarlo. He ido 3 veces a este hotel y literalmente han caído muy bajo para ser un hotel de gama. Y como consejo deberían de poner un rótulo en cada habitación que diga que el agua no es potable.

I traveled with my family and parents. The resort is very old and outdated, and the food quality is poor. The service is acceptable but unremarkable. There are no gluten-free options available, including desserts or bread. Basic amenities are also lacking—there were no shower caps, slippers, cotton swabs, or Q-tips provided. The rooms had a noticeable moldy smell. The beach is poorly maintained, with plastic trash scattered along the shore. It was disturbing to see plastic bottles and cups on the beach, and I found myself repeatedly cleaning them up to prevent them from being washed into the ocean. Won’t go back!

La comida es espectacular, realmente uno de los puntos más fuertes del hotel. La atención del personal y los tragos son buenos, aunque en lo personal no me agradó el uso excesivo de plásticos. El mar no es nada del otro mundo: al estar en el Pacífico, las olas son fuertes y el agua es oscura. Además, la playa es pública y no está bien cuidada, no hay sillas ni espacios adecuados para sentarse o pasar el día cómodamente en la playa. En general, una buena experiencia por la comida y el servicio, pero con áreas claras de mejora en la zona de playa.

Stayed for 10 days with family including Xmas and NYE. The room is screaming for updates, cracked and broken glass tiles in shower, damages walls and fixtures, ants and other bugs everywhere and in bed. We were missing sheets and soap and shampoo after housecleaning visits. Elevators not working most of the day. Food was ok, nothing special for Xmas or NYE except some cheap seafood salads added. Buffet for breakfast and lunch nearly identical every day. The restaurants were impossible to get in, we tried 10 times to get the Japanese restaurant and we were denied service, their excuse was poor people line up 1 hr before the restaurant open on their vacation so they can get in as they don’t have any reservations service and we watched the exact same group dinned at the same restaurants over and over as we had to go to buffet. Some of the foods at buffet was clearly not fresh and was reheated leftover of the restaurants from night before. The cheese and dairy selection was lukewarm and not refrigerated. We did tried the steak house, it took 1.5 hours for the food to come, the med-well fillet steak was rare and chewy piece of meat folded into a ball to make it look like a fillet. The Italian restaurant lamb chop was 3 tiny pieces of mostly fat than meat. Entertainment was very outdated and mostly boring. The live music was selections of handful of songs repeated everyday. The NYE party was just terrible with DJ playing 80s Hip Hop and R&B. Some shows cancelled due to technical.

Lake of vegetarian food. Food section staff at Pizzeria very bad. Intentionally making bad pizza. I have never seen pizza like this before. Only we have food available to eat for vegetarian. Six days we were hungry after paying $400/day

Let’s start with the positive, all the staff are fantastic. The food is absolutely awful. The WiFi is poor. The transportation that was provide by Expedia was dangerous on the way there and not well planned.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, the food was very good, and the amenities were enjoyable. The constant demagnetization of room key cards was extremely frustrating and our ground floor room had too many bugs with most of us getting bit overnight in our beds. I had 8 bites on second to last night on the bottom of my feet making it difficult to walk the rest of the trip.

everything was on point, the room was clean, staff was great, food was decent....my only real issue, was the wifi. it would be great if you guys did an upgrade and added some wifi extenders to reach the pool area and possibly the beach.

Gorgeous resort, maintained spotlessly, an amazing beach and some of the best all inclusive food I’ve ever had. The water park next door was so fun for adults and kids alike. And the best are the people - incredibly friendly and always smiling. We loved our stay. Thank you to the amazing staff at the Riu Palace!

Failure to Accommodate Dietary Needs: We are vegetarian. Despite multiple requests, staff members have been unable or unwilling to provide meaningful assistance. Food options are extremely limited, poorly labeled, and consistently disappointing. For an international all-inclusive resort, this level of disregard for basic dietary accommodations is unacceptable. Unprofessional and Rude Staff: Several interactions with staff have been dismissive and unhelpful, and at times outright rude. This is completely inconsistent with the standards expected at a RIU Palace property. Unsanitary Room Conditions: We found ants and lizards in our room, which is unacceptable by any hospitality standard. I have video evidence documenting these conditions. Our shower area doesn’t even have a curtain separating it from the rest of the room. It was us and our kids in the room and the room layout was absolutely horrendous. Overall Quality Far Below Expectations: The service, food quality, cleanliness, and guest experience do not come close to what was advertised or what any guest should reasonably expect—especially at this price point.

Love the resort. There are a few things that needs to be fixed or updated but it appears that they will be doing that next year. When they update, they need to put restroom facilities NEXT TO THE different POOL AREAS. Walking long distance from the pools is a severe inconvenience. Staff was excellent.

As someone who does all inclusive multiple times a year we were excited to try a RIU. Upon check in we were already alarmed as the woman was not responsive and didnt even answer our question handing us a copy printed map you couldn't even read and saying "walk that way well bring bags when we are ready". We went to the pool buffet, and everything was cold/sat out. We were so worried, but later on I will say that buffet improved, you simply need to come earlier because once you hit about 1 hour prior to close they will actually REFUSE to fill items. We went to our room, and this is where it got interesting. The rooms are outdated, my daughter had no hot water in her adjoining room, there was broken glass block, peeling paint and even the mirror was missing... MIRROR... I dont know how that is possible but it was? The room had little to NO lighting- we had one room no hot water for 3 days and every single day we had to get our room key redone 4 times a day. They said this was due to our phones but maintenance confirmed it was not. We went to dinner, and this is where our experience was pretty much solidified. The Italian had only 5 choices, and the food you couldn't even cut with a fork. We tried the Japanese, and again, the food was overcooked, and subpar. There was little to NO options for anyone who does not eat meat/seafood.. so my teen daughter ate rice as her meal. Roomservice? Cold Nachos...ICE cold from the fridge... Staff was amazing, but amenities HORRID

Resort was very comfortable and grounds were well maintained. Staff made you feel welcome and were very diligent about cleaning. Furniture and decor in rooms was a little dated, but not displeasing. A few minor maintenance issues in the room( sliding glass door slammed, sink stoppers didn’t work) nothing that decreased our comfort. entertainment was good. Really enjoyed the Queen cover band that played one night. we did venture over to the other resort that is attached to the palace and it was much brighter and very active with kids and lots of people. we much preferred the palace which was quieter and had lower lighting for a laid-back vibe , with much fewer children. The Beach was nice with calm waters. there were people selling souvenirs or asking if you wanted a massage but were very polite if you said no Gracias. food was great. Enjoyed all the specialty restaurants and had no problems getting in. The buffet for breakfast was pretty much the same every day, but there were so many choices that it was perfectly fine. only criticism that I would have is that the Jacuzzi tub was in the spa and you had to make a reservation for it and it was very underwhelming barely any jets, basically just a big bath. The steam rooms were separated in the locker rooms.Gym equipment was ample. Riu fun staff kept activities flowing, and we did do the water work out class and it was fun. all in all had a wonderful time. would go back to a Riu resort again.

This property is breathtaking and the wildlife that surrounds it is very captivating! RIU never disappoints! Mutiple dining options, plenty of activities and excursions galore! I can't wait to go back. ALSO, make sure to fly into Liberia Airport if this is your destination because any other airport is more than an hour away!
