Luxury Log home on 40 Acres - Awesome Views and Decks - 7 Min to Durango

Note: 4WD/AWD is required in winter between December and late March.

There is a hot tub on the patio but it is NOT OPERATIONAL.

Mountain paradise at 7,000 feet of elevation. This is the quintessential mountain log home providing roomy comfort for many guests with six bedrooms, five baths, multiple decks and patios plus expansive views of surrounding woods and mountains just 7 minutes to Historic downtown Durango.

This home makes a splendid gathering place for families with two master suites, four additional bedrooms, a spacious, open living/dining/kitchen floor plan, den with pool table and media room, loft with additional TV spot, plus multiple patios and a huge main deck.

2nd Master - King (Main Level) w/bath
3rd Bedroom - Double (Upstairs)
4th Bedroom - Double (Bottom Level)
5th Bedroom - Double (Bottom Level)
6th Bedroom - 2 Twins (Upstairs Level)

There is also a 7th sleeping space with a queen bed off the main living space that has a room divider screen vs a proper door (it is not advertised as a bedroom but certainly can be used as such).

The home itself is perched on a hilltop vantage point overlooking a large mountain meadow valley that is teaming with wildlife throughout all seasons.  It is common to see elk, deer, wild turkey, fox, many varieties of birds including hawks and eagles, and even the occasional black bear from the comfort of many outdoor and indoor vantage points.

Consistent with most Colorado mountain resorts, the home does not offer air-conditioning. Most homes are equipped with either a ceiling fan, box fan and at least one opening window to assist with climate control..

Please note that, like most properties in the area, this home does not have AC, as it is uncommon for homes at this elevation. Temperatures inside the property are easily managed by using fans and opening the windows at night when temperatures drop into the 40s.

Great Cabin Vacation

Was here for a wedding and was able to get the whole family and kiddos in one place. Felt like a really relaxing and enjoyable weekend with views of the trees all around us. Played games and explored the town and train rides to Silverton! Highly recommend and we will be back!

Secluded With Great Views Close to Durango

This is a secluded Hugh 3 story log cabin house with great views 5 miles west of Durango. Family enjoyed house and location. Inside is spectacular and well equipped. There are very large decks on ground and first floor. Access to house includes a 1/3 mile steep rough wash board gravel shelf road. Saw lots of animals - deer, turkey. Only negatives were no A/C made 2/3 floors very uncomfortable in afternoon/evenings due to 90 degree weather, very odd and inconvenient only freezer in ground floor laundry room, did not supply hand or dish soap, no ice maker - bring bags, no check out instructions provided and owner did not respond to question.

Reunion of cousins

The house was great. The views are amazing and serene. It was very rustic with the oversized beams and antler sheds (antlers that young deer loose). The only issue we had was trying to figure out the dated stereo system the internet is starlink with help tremendously. We would come back for sure.

Good Memories Made

We enjoyed the house although the late afternoons and early evenings were quite warm not having AC. I also would suggest they cut off the shower curtain because the rod is so low you end up standing on the curtain when you shower. There were two dead rats outside on the patio in a bucket trap. That was unpleasant. But all in all it was a good place for me and my family to reconnect and make good memories. Thanks!

Great location and potential but needs attention

The cabin is located on a beautiful property with close proximity to Durango. The decks are lovely and the table and chairs provided are nice. Unfortunately this property has been neglected and is in dire need of attention. Many of the mattresses, pillows, bedding and overall amenities need to be changed. Some of the mattresses sink to the middle in a v shape, the pillows are extremely old, the bedding is uncomfortable, mismatched and feels dirty. The kitchen is overstocked, disorganized and cluttered. There is not one area you can put your items except the countertops. The area rugs and furniture pillows are torn, frayed and need to be replaced. The blinds need attention or replaced . The old, non functioning hot tub needs to be repaired or removed. Before renting this place I would read the reviews. After getting there it was very clear they were accurate and I wish I would have paid more attention. It saddens me to leave this review as this cabin has infinite possibilities but it really needs updating and cleaning for the rate they are charging.

Great place to stay in Durango

This is a beautiful home and property just a short drive out of Durango, Colorado. The home is large and easily accommodated our group of 10. The property is beautiful, we saw wildlife most mornings including deer, coyotes, and wild turkey. With two kitchens and lots of bathrooms and open space, this is a great place for a group to enjoy the Durango area. The property description mentions snow and 4 wheel drive access which is likely the case in the winter months, but we had no problems driving up the dirt driveway with normal rental cars in early May. We enjoyed staying in this home :)

Great place for a family

Upon arrival very beautiful house. Through out The Weeknd noticed small things that needs to be upgraded. Surround system was a little difficult to figure out. Overall house was great. Everyone enjoyed the stay.

Fall 2023 Elk Mountain Family Get-a-way

This property is in a great location, easy access to Durango yet far enough away not to hear street noise nor ambient light to detract from star gazing. The kitchen set-up lends itself to an open inviting family time preparing meals. Bedrooms are of good size and well appointed. Overall our family had a really nice stay and would stay again if the opportunity presented itself.

Spacious with fantastic views

Our group spent every morning and evening on this gorgeous deck to take in the amazing views and stargaze. There was plenty of room for all of us and we truly enjoyed the property. The management was very attentive to an issue we had and fixed it immediately.

Gathering of Friends in Durango

Durango Fun

This was the perfect property for a group of 12 women on a girls trip. Plenty of space and bathrooms which is what a big group of girls look for. There was every amenity available and it was just perfect. The only tiny thing that was hard is that there was not a freezer in the two fridges in the two kitchens. We had things that needed a freezer when we arrived and had to go to a store to get ice and a small cooler only to find a freezer after the fact down in the basement in the laundry room. But truly was not a huge issue or a deal breaker. We loved this location and highly recommend it.

Beautiful Snowy Retreat

We enjoyed our stay very much. The home was large enough to give the adults some separation from the teenagers, allowing plenty of beds and bathrooms for everyone. The decor is a little dated and in need of some refreshing, but the home is in great condition and very comfortable. The snow removal service was prompt and frequent enough that we never felt stuck, and we couldn't have asked for a more picturesque location.

Great big place

Had a great time here. House was clean and had plenty of room. They aren't kidding about needing 4/AWD to get up the hill, it's steep but definitely manageable with 4/AWD. Bout 10 minutes outside of downtown but beautiful open space away from any other houses

Perfect Group Getaway

We had an excellent stay at the Elk Mountain retreat. This was the perfect location for a Large group. Everyone had their own space and the common areas provided a great location to come together. The views in the facility are equally wonderful. The customer service was more than we could’ve asked for as well! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a mountain getaway

The Good. The Bad. The Ugly.

This was a large & lovely home in a great location. We loved the decks & the space. Working w/ the property management team was a positive experience. Upon our arrival, two of the five toilets were not working. Mgt worked hard to get someone out for repairs. Despite a good sized kitchen, the knives were so dull & in desperate need of sharpening. Some of the bathroom sinks were quite slow draining. The decor is very dated & decorative pillows & throw blankets are ratty & torn. The lighting is poor so it is quite dark in the home. The beds are in need of new mattresses. The only two good ones were the king beds. The lower level was musty & the upper two levels were stuffy. Not sure if the home is on a septic system but half of the bathroom sinks were quite stinky. Despite all that & if you're willing to look beyond, it is a nice home for a large group getaway. Finally, I was super disappointed that the home rental price was reduced on line but we were not given the lower price when I inquired about getting the lower rate. Go & enjoy. The home has much to offer.
