Historic Pet Friendly Home on 3 acres w/AC between Durango and Purgatory

Our 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom single level home was built in 1955 by one of the original homesteaders on what used to be one of the original valley ranches north of Durango, where privacy abounds and frequent wildlife sightings include deer, elk, black bear, wild turkey, hawks etc.

The home has been completely remodeled offering a fantastic gourmet kitchen and modern bathrooms as well as AC but also retains its original charm. The property also features a fenced yard, outdoor covered space and a seasonal irrigation creek that runs thru the property.

Bed Configuration (single level home):
Master Suite - King Bed with private bath
2nd Bedroom - Queen Bed
3rd Bedroom - Bunk Beds (Single over Single)

This home is pet friendly! We allow a maximum of 2 dogs max and the pet fee is $40/day (for a max $250 per stay).

Book at least a week and a 10% discount is automatically applied (Excludes Christmas/New Years).

Stay with us and we offer DISCOUNTS on both summer (white water rafting, horseback riding etc.) and winter (ski/snowboard rentals, sleigh rides, snowmobile tours etc.) activities.

Cancellation Policy: A non-refundable payment of $300 is required at the time of booking. This $300 payment is applied toward the total amount due and is only refundable within 72 hours of the time of the booking is made. If your arrival date is within 30 days of booking, payment in full is required at the time of booking. Cancellations or changes to stay dates, including changes that result in a shortened stay, are not permitted within 30 days of arrival, and any such changes will result in a penalty. Cancellations or changes that are made within thirty (30) days of the arrival date, forfeit the entire reservation amount while cancellations made more than thirty (30) days in advance of your arrival only forfeit the $300 payment made at the time of booking. For reservations that are at least thirty (30) nights, the cancellation policy above increases to sixty (60) days prior to the arrival date. We do offer travel insurance.

Outstanding stay. The kitchen was perfect for cooking Turkey day dinner for 6. The beds were very comfortable. The house was well stocked with Dishes, pans etc.. The location was beautiful and centrally located between town and Purg ski area. We would def stay here again.

A perfect place and setting for our dogs and us! It’s such a special place. Wildlife visits, beautifully remodeled home on a beautiful property, quiet and relaxing with all the comforts of home. The master king bed was incredibly comfortable. We were thankful for AC as temps were warmer than expected. Cool nights helped our restfulness. The pictures on VRBO didn’t do justice to the actual setting. We will return!

Mice

This is the second time we have stayed at this property and while it’s beautiful and in a great location..it will be our last. In 2020 two dead mice made the place smell terrible until I found them. This stay we saw mice running around the main level the first night, I called the property manager and they were sending someone out but day turned into afternoon then evening so I purchased some traps. We caught six mice in four nights. Every morning I was cleaning poop up. It was gross. I would have gone elsewhere but couldn’t find another place that would take a dog. The management company did give us a 10% refund but for 4,000, I shouldn’t play exterminator.

We had a wonderful vacation in Durango staying at this property. We loved the location - gorgeous views, peace and quiet, and lots of space for our teenage kids to run around with the dog. The house was comfortable and had all that we needed. I enjoyed the beautiful kitchen and bathroom. I wish we could have stayed for a month!

Fall Getaway

Visited Durango this past week and enjoyed our time at this cabin. It's close to town but feels like you're in the middle of the mountains. Lots of wildlife each day including elk and turkeys. Great kitchen and outdoor space. Plenty of room for family...definitely a peaceful retreat. Small fenced yard was perfect for dogs. Highly recommend!

Wonderful stay in the mountains

Honestly, this is the best rental property we've ever stayed at. You're about 20 minutes north of Durango, but very close to the highway and it's easy to get to town or north to Purgatory/Silverton. The property has a full kitchen with all of the kitchen-y stuff you'd need (honestly, we were taking pictures of things in this kitchen we want to add to our own house). There's a full gas/propane dual fuel grill as well out back. The yard is perfect for your four legged friends, and the rest of the house is great for a longer-term stay (great bathrooms -- jacuzzi tub) and the laundry units in the basement. But what really sets this property apart is the responsiveness of the VRC staff. We got in pretty late, but they still checked in on us to make sure that we got in the house okay, and they were responsive via text the whole time we were there. We're definitely going to be making a return visit!

Such a cute piece of history!

This house was super easy to find, has updated amenities and amazing showers! We loved our stay and were able to hike up the hill that was within walking distance. Turkeys and elk greeted us every morning and evening. Loved it!

Rockhouse

This property is wonderful. The setting is perfect, it is clean, well stocked with cooking and bath items and makes for a very restful quite vacation. We have been here twice now and have made reservation for next year. This is truly home away from home.

Awesome location

Off the beaten path but perfect for us with our 4 wheeled drive vehicle in the winter. The house is beautifully remodeled and the bathrooms and kitchen are great. The only comment I would have is less glass size tables in the master bedroom. They just don’t have much space to put glasses and water on. Staff was friendly and the house was very clean. Highly recommend if you like having space.

Amazing home and views

This home was amazing and we will definitely be staying here again. We loved the updated bathrooms and big kitchen. The views and stream that ran through the yard was so beautiful and our kids enjoyed running around. Their were a lot of dead bugs in the kitchen and their was mice poop in the main bedroom on the bedding and side table.

Perfect Mountain Retreat

This charming rock house is idyllic: resting at the foot hills of the mountains and a cold mountain creek running through the 4-acre property, with lots of Colorado wildlife to see. The owners take great care of the property and were very helpful. A wonderful place for a family with kids and dogs to enjoy.

Rock House Rocks!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Rock House. The location was perfect. Close enough to town, but far enough to enjoy the nature setting. The house was great for our family of 4 and 2 pups. Not exactly roughing it

Our stay at this stone cabin was far more than we ever expected. We arrived in autumn as part of a harvest trip. The kitchen was amazing. It is truly a cook's kitchen. The wood-burning fireplace was simple to use and authentically charming. I was pleasantly surprised to find a steam shower in the master. The renovation is outstanding, the lawn is meticulously maintained and the wildlife put on a show that's much better than anything on TV. I already miss it. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful, quiet, well equipped

Great property! Kitchen is amazing. We have never been in a VRBO as well equipped as this house is. About 15 min. outside of Durango(just right for us). Owner is very helpful and accommodating. We sill stay again.

Green grass!

Great house with a large private yard perfect for our dogs. Very quiet at night so we could hear the coyotes howl. Owners live next door (not too close) and checked in daily to handle a house repair due to roof damage from a tree falling on the house a few weeks prior to our stay. They kept us up to date and fully aware of the repair activities. VRBO offered an alternative property that wasn’t equivalent so we opted to keep our original plan knowing that there would be repair work during our stay. Even with the repair work, we would rate the house second best with our many VRBO rentals (first was a Lake Tahoe stay).
