This property was a find! We stayed in the coach house and loved it. It was very quiet despite a wedding and reception on site by chance coinciding with our visit. The only issue was finding the house, but thank God for Google maps!

The hotel is in a lovely setting, nice and quiet and in a ideal location. The staff was very friendly and the bed was very comfortable. Now for the bad bits. The room that we had was in a horrible state, there was stains on the carpet, stains on the bed and cobwebs around the room. The bathroom, well, there was paint flaking off all around the coving, cracks in the walls. The cistern lid had a big chip on it. The hole room needs decorating. The breakfast was very overpriced for what you get if you bought it at the hotel.

Constructive criticism: The staff were all very friendly and pleasant, but were not properly trained; 45 minutes' - 60 minutes' wait for dinner order even to be taken, and then only by beckoning a member of staff - there were too few of them. Some diners who came into dining room first were apparently unnoticed, and those who entered later appeared to be have their order taken first - no real organisation. Bed linen and towels were clean and fresh. Availability of hot water in bathroom was inconsistent. There were occasional wood lice crawling around the bedroom - I know this happens in older properties; what should have been dealt with (and wasn't during my 48 hours' stay) were the dead wood lice on landings and stairways; these should have been vacuumed up fairly promptly but they remained there throughout my entire stay. It is a beautiful building, as are the grounds, but it is very tired everywhere - and I think that it is very, VERY expensive for what is offered.

We have stayed there before and enjoyed staying in a period property and breakfast was very good. This time alas there was no hot water for bath/shower in our room in the morning and the breakfast menu was more limited than last time. So, unfortunately this was not the best experience for us - but bed was very comfortable and we slept well.

Thank you for sharing feedback on your recent visit to Guyers House Alan. We did have an issue with hot water briefly one morning but a plumber promptly arrived to rectify this. Our breakfast menu hasn't changed in 18 months and still offers 8 cooked dishes plus continental options. We are delighted to hear that you found the bed comfortable.

Bedroom and bathroom were quaintly good although both could have been improved by a lick of paint. However, the food was not only very expensive but served luke warm and generally of ordinary quality. The coffee was so strong that it was undrinkable [ a Frenchman would quake at it ! ].

We're sorry to hear you didn't enjoy dining with us, our costs are in line with the constant increase from our suppliers but I am shocked to hear it was only luke warm, I have raised this with our Head Chef. We appreciate our coffee is not to everyone's tastes, but our team would have happily made you a weaker coffee if requested.

Issues with WIFI
Stayed here on a couple of occasions, the WIFI in the room I was staying was non existent throughout my stay. Frustrating as I was there for work. Also no curtain in the bathroom. Also the bar is never manned and same with the front desk, staff I’m assuming from the kitchen will just walk past you and not ask if they can help.

2年前に2泊して全てにおいて素晴らしく、今回ももちろん2泊予約しました。 イギリスもエネルギーの高騰など大変な状況下で仕方ないのかもしれないけど追加したイングリッシュブレックファストは有料になりクオリティは最低。ディナーサーブのチームワークも良くなくて残念で眠れなくなるほどでした。 庭も部屋もよかったのに、程の良いビジネスホテルになってしまっていました。 どうか前の状態になってもらえたら、料金が上がってもいきたいと思います。

Great character property
Great character building, change from the norm... has all you'll need. Very old property, if youre into that your in for a great stay. Well priced for the area, shall most likely stay again. Business travellers, please note a refundable incidental card charge is required upon check in, this is usual at many hotels, but if youre not carrying an expences card, may catch you out. This did not give accounts an issue.

Staff at guyers were friendly, welcoming & helpful. We stayed there overnight after a wedding at the venue. The grounds are beautiful & we had a lovely view of the garden and pond from our window. The room was quaint with oak beams and the bed was super comfortable. There was a kettle & plenty of choice of hot drinks, also complementary toiletries & super fluffy towels. Our room and bathroom were very clean I only gave 4 stars for condition & facilities due to a leaking tap on the bath(a very small issue)! Breakfast was self serve as it was a Saturday morning, lots of choices from cereals, fresh fruit, full English, toast& drinks and you could eat as much as you wanted. Very enjoyable, before our journey home. There was plenty of parking. Useful items included, Tv, phone, hairdryer plus an iron & ironing board. We would love to visit again in the future 😊

Lovely building/location just don’t eat here
Well I have to be honest it’s rather Fawlty Towers but run by very young people with no experience. The hotel itself is nice, and location is good. Some staff were helpful, others not so much, the receptionist was completely pointless and I might have just checked myself in. Do not go near the food, dinner and breakfast were dreadful. When I asked I was told there was no qualified chef on site, this was the weekend!

We do have a young team and this is unfair to harshly criticise as your age doesn't affect how you perform at a job. Our receptionist went out of her way to help you and all of my team tried their best to ensure you had a nice stay with us. We clearly aren't the hotel for you and appreciate we won't be for everyone.

Convenient hotel adjacent to where I was working. Bit disappointing that they are now charging for EV charging, the food prices are high for the quality and the heating was not working in a number of areas. For a hotel in the sticks, it seems expensive and therefore I will book Bath centre in future and have options for dinner and access to better facilities

Thank you for sharing your feedback Tom, we haven't had any heating issues though, if you ever would like the heating turned up a bit more please do let us know. With the rise in energy costs, we cannot absorb the complimentary electric charging costs any longer I'm afraid but the cost is kept to a minimum. We hope to see you again soon.

Lovely old building and gardens. The room could definitely do with a lick of paint, dirty walls. Invasion of insects in the room (lots of ladybirds bugs and dead flies). On occasion no heating nor hot water in room. No apologies offered. £50 retainer after having paid in advance at check-in. Never had to do that before in a hotel anywhere in the world.

Had you raised any heating/hot water concerns at the time, our team would have been happy to have looked into this as we are unaware of these issues. Nothing like shown on the website. Our bedroom was aged with marked decor and carpets, a 1980s cane headboard which creaked everytime we moved, bed linen which didn’t fit the duvet or pillows, a sad bathroom with a leaking shower only suitable for a dwarf. The system ran out of hot water before we had both showered. Breakfast was indifferent….

OK but staff were struggling
We have stayed at Guyers before but it now seems to be struggling to maintain standards. We had a very good dinner at a great Hotels.com rate (£24 each compared with the hotel’s £35 rate) but breakfast was disappointing - the choices advertised on the website were just not available. We were able to get poached eggs but people after us were told that the staff were too busy to do fried or poached eggs. Reception did not answer the phone when we tried to book a time for dinner in advance (again told “too busy” when we mentioned this on arrival). On the positive side, Guyers House and gardens are very attractive and some staff were trying very hard in what seemed to be difficult circumstances.

Our breakfast menu on our website is a sample menu and therefore the dishes aren't always available if we're serving a buffet. Our chefs are never 'too busy' to make a different type of egg.I personally checked you in and I did not say we are too busy to answer the phone, I simply advised that we experience a high number of calls but always call guests back that leave a message and we answer as many calls as we possibly can, I am sorry that you didn't reflect this in your review.

A beautiful hotel with tranquil atmosphere
The hotel is very clean, nice and beautiful. They have a big, nice garden and is well managed. It gives you a pleasant environment that you relax and can walk around enjoying the atmosphere. The staff are nice and professional. The gardener even has time to introduce me to the plant I am interested in. This shows how a professional team they are.

The hotel is charming, with plenty of character. However, being located in one of the outside rooms, it took a good 5 minutes to get hot water through to the shower, wasting a lot of water in the process. The restaurant only offered a 2 or 3 course meal at a set price, with no option to only have a main course. This meant having to find an alternative place to eat, and the hotel isn't situated near to many places within walking distance

Slightly dated hotel, although i suppose you could say its part of its charm. Didnt pay attention to booking T&C's which caught me out as a business traveller, and no hotel discretion to waive charge,so as a result its no longer an option for me or my team to stay there

Thank you for your review Stephen, our hotel intends to keep the tradition and charm of a late 1700's building but we appreciate this isn't to everyone's tastes. I'm sorry to hear you won't be staying with us again, but unfortunately we cannot afford to absorb cancellation loses.
