Very old building, uneven floors gave it character. Very steep steps up to the accommodation level though. No parking, though I thought there was (I guess I misread the information about this place), nearest parking was just round the corner and cost £8 overnight, i.e. 24 hours. This was recommended by the staff when we arrived, not knowing where to park. Next day I asked at nearby Waitrose about free parking and they helpfully pointed out several on-street free parking marked bays which were only about 5 mins walk to the hotel, which we were able to use for the remainder of our stay. I would suggest the staff might have mentioned this possibility and given us the option.

I planned a stay for my girlfriends birthday and it wasn't what I paid for. First off the service was absolutely excellent.. we had dinner there and the service was top notch. But the room wasn't what was advertised on the website, the room didn't look anything like what I thought I was paying for. It's more of an inn than a hotel as when we got to our room we could hear the loud noise from downstairs at the bar. It was so bad we had to checkout at 10pm and find another hotel. Apart from the great service and staff I was very disappointed with the room.

In this period of hospitality staff shortages The White Hart seems to bucked the trend and recruited superb staff. We were very impressed with all the staff we came into contact with at the property and in particular the girls at reception. Very efficient and helpful check in. We were attending a function close by which was not easy to find from the postcode. They sourced directions, booked a cab, then chased the cab when it was a few minutes late and appeared with an umbrella whilst we were waiting and it began to rain. She really was very impressive. The restaurant and bar staff also very friendly and efficient. Great breakfast with lots of food options to cater for all tastes. Would recommend for anyone attending a wedding or function near by. Very nice bathrooms, iron and even hair straighteners in the room.

Would stay again
Really nice clean hotel. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The pub below does really great food in the evenings and for breakfast.

Some room maintenance issues let things down
This is more of a pub with rooms than a hotel. It's been refurbished well and is certainly an historic building, but there were some maintenance issues (leak from shower that couldn't be rectified, AC unit clicking noise) that possibly should have been addressed before check-in and the staff helpfully allowed me to move rooms. No particularly obvious Covid preparedness beyond the use of disposable paper menus and the poached egg was a catering one rather than from a real egg. It was probably an off-day, that happens. But I'd take a little persuading to return I am afraid, certainly at the price charged (although everywhere is expensive this summer!)

All our meals are cooked by talented chefs from fresh ingredients, and are by no means bought in. We understand that great food has to be cooked to perfection, and ocassionally tastes and preferences differ - we're sorry to hear that you felt we didn't hit the nail on the head for you. We look hard for suppliers that match our company values, and pride ourselves on partnering with sustainable and highly reccomendable suppliers. It does mean that we pay a little extra than our competitiors, but many of our guests appreciate the delicious dishes that come as a result of that. We will take into consideration your notes about maintainance in the rooms, and are sorry that this wasn't mentioned to you before access to the room. I am, however, glad to hear that our team were able to assist you into moving to a more suitable room for your stay. We do hope that your recent experience doesn't deter you from visiting us again in the near future, where we hope to restore your faith in us at The White Hart.

Accommodation and property very good room had a very comfy bed and great power rain fall shower didn’t want to come out ido l love a coffee but was disappointed with the coffee machine in the room only 3 capsules and not a good size coffee. Dinner and food was ok just disappointed in the services having table given away to someone else , weather it is due to current times or being under staffed there was lack of communication and attentiveness. They seemed more concerned with the walk ins rather than the quests that are staying . If I was looking to stay in Bedford I would try again.

Very good value
Really enjoyed our stay. Room was large bed comfy excellent shower, even had a coffee machine. Couldn't fault anything . Breakfast good we ate in the restaurant and that was very good as well.

A little gem!
This hotel is an absolute gem. I usually go for chain hotels so I know what I’m getting and tend to avoid pub hotels but as it was next to my customers offices and convenient I took a punt and it really paid off. The hotel is clean with really nice and trendy decor and all the features within the room that you’d get in a chain. The bar/ restaurant is a nice food lead pub so not a loud boozy bar and the food and drink selections are great. I’ve now stayed here 3x and wouldn’t even look at anywhere else in this area!

Arrived mid evening (had made contact earlier in the day to advise our expected time...we were very tired... to be given an unmade room... the wrong room.. Redirected but took time... now very exhausted and ready to sleep. However the noise of the pub and clientele audible until past 1pm .... largely due to old windows.. the bathroom window unable to be closed! Would be reluctant to return as I had expected better sound proofing.

We received a very warm welcome and we were promptly taken up to our room. Staff was very nice and helpful. Friday night was a busy night for the pub and popular with the younger kids it appeared. Music was a bit loud but thankfully we were so tired it didn’t bother us too much. Room was very nice with fantastic bathroom complete with claw foot tub.
