Mt. Hood Hideaway: Hiking, harmony, hot tub, and access to the hill!

Welcome to the Mt. Hood Hideaway! A quiet, cozy retreat among the trees, right near the beautiful Salmon River.

The cabin (3 bedrooms w/ 5 beds, and 2 bathrooms) is great for family and friends, as well as for a romantic get-away or solo adventure. It has a well-equipped kitchen and outdoor grill for preparing meals. A beautiful propane-fueled cast iron stove in the living room provides inside ambiance at the touch of a button, while big windows, skylights, multiple outside decks, and a hot tub provide lots of ways to enjoy the sounds and fresh air of the forest just outside, as well.

Accessibility: 2 bedrooms and one full bath upstairs, and 1 bedroom and full bath downstairs. There are 2 steps to enter the house, and it is located at the end of a (very bumpy! please drive carefully/slowly!) dead end dirt road. You can hear, but not see, the nearby Salmon River, which is walking distance away. The nearest trailhead into the Mt Hood National Forest is a mere 15 minutes (on foot) away, with many, many others a short drive away. The cabin is also conveniently located within reach of a full grocery store (less than 5 min drive), library, bakery, gas station, and a bunch of wonderful local restaurants within a 10 min drive (BBQ, Japanese, pizza).

Activities: Within a 15 miles, you can ski, paddle, fish, mountain bike, or snowshoe on countless trails, rivers, and streams. Enjoy starry nights from the hot tub or wildlife viewing in the early morning through the many big windows or from one of the multiple decks. We also have musical instruments (piano, guitar, banjos and shakers), plus many games and puzzles for indoor fun.

Please note: This is NOT a party house-- it is a place for a peaceful getaway or get-together. We love and respect our neighbors, and ask all guests to observe quiet hours outside on the decks from 10 pm until 6 am during their stay. Also, there is NO garbage service at the cabin, so all garbage and recycling must be packed out (or can be taken care of for an extra fee). Please plan ahead for this, as it is a wildlife corridor and leaving garbage outside the house is not an option. Lastly, we ask that folks not wear shoes in the house to keep our cleaning fee as low as possible, thank you!

Family getaway

Cabin was perfect for our stay. The kitchen was well stocked and the host very responsive. We enjoyed the hot tub as well as the quiet when sitting on the back deck. Otter even spent a day visiting with us. Great location. Would stay here again.

Girls summer trip

We enjoyed our stay overall! Items we didn’t think we would need were provided and the communication was quick and helpful. The location is close to lots of amazing places in Mt. Hood. We definitely are planning to come back for a winter stay!

Delightful, charming, clearly well loved.

This was one of the loveliest homes we’ve ever found in years of traveling. It’s just beautiful with curated, vintage decor in every corner. You can tell when a property owner spends time at a place. The kitchen was beautifully appointed with quality tableware, tools, and appliances. And non-perishables are left for guests such as oils, seasonings, basics like flour and sugar. The beds were so comfortable with pretty quilts and the quiet was just what we needed to catch up on sleep and slow our minds. Every item in the hideaway is special and everything works. And best of all it is moments away from the spectacular Salmon River old growth trails. One tip for visitors to the area; don’t believe what you see on internet for restaurant hours. Every place listed as closed was actually open. Just call ahead.

What a beautiful place to stay in a great area in Oregon!

Absolutely perfect

My family of four (two kids 3&8) had the BEST time at Sarah’s cabin! So close to the snow, at a dead end street and very quiet. We were lucky to see a few salmon in the creek, enjoyed the hot tub, and had plenty of space to cook and play. The cabin has lots of fun puzzles (we did 6 in two days ) and fun instruments you can play around with. Sarah suggested white river sno park and it had the most beautiful views and epic sledding! We cannot wait to come back and will absolutely recommend to friends and family. Awesome spot

Great for family gathering!

We loooved staying at this sweet home! Communication was great, the location perfect, the beds so comfy, and the view off the back porch idyllic. It felt safe for our 1 year - we brought sound machines to cover the creaking upstairs other reviewers mentioned and then it wasn’t a problem at all. There were lots of fans to use and the hot tub was lovely. Really appreciated the stay and would definitely visit again!

Comfy, clean and private

We visited Mt. Hood in May to show the area and the mountain to my brother in law who is new to the Northwest. I am so glad I chose Sarah's cabin. It was perfect for three adults--spacious, bright, warm after we turned the heat and fireplace on, and so well equipped. I was delighted with the kitchen and could have cooked anything I wanted--lots of plates and cups and glasses, pots & pans and utensils--had we not mostly eaten at the local restaurants which we always enjoy. There were lots of fluffy towels, good beds and soft sheets, and the sound of the beautiful creek behind the house to go to sleep to. We brought the lightweight smart TV down from the master bedroom to the living room and were able to easily stream our favorites in the evenings. The mornings and nights were cold, but we still enjoyed having coffee and tea on the patio. I can imagine in warmer weather how nice it would be to relax out there or on the sweet little deck off the bedroom upstairs, as the house looks out over quiet mossy forest and is quite private. There isn't much in the way of phone service in Welches, but the internet was fast and steady. And best of all, the whole house was sparkling clean everywhere. Thank you, Sarah, for a wonderful getaway. We will visit your cabin again, I have no doubt.

Perfect mountain feel that we were looking for.

Our grandchildren loved being able to explore the creek and trees. Only 10 minutes from snow play and all enjoyed the piano. The kitchen was fully supplied with everything you could want. Great house

Wonderful weekend getaway in the woods

This house is in a lovely wooded location and the house is perfect for a family getaway. We really appreciated the games and musical instruments in the common area (but also appreciated the availability of the TV upstairs for family movie night). The house is well-maintained and very clean. It is a fairly easy drive to all the snow fun and hiking nearby. We would love to come back!

Great Location!

Wonderful setting listening to the creek roll by. Friendly deer that frequented every morning. Yet still close to the grocery store and restaurants. Sarah is very quick to answer any questions and very caring that you enjoy your stay. I will definitely rent again and tell family and friends.

Cozy winter getaway

Our group (4 adults, 2 infants) had the best time ringing in the new year at Sarah’s cabin. Highlights included spotting deer, baby sled rides in the backyard and enjoying the fabulous hot tub. We had everything we needed and communication was great!

Sweet, cozy cabin

This cabin was a bit tricky to find. It only shows up on Apple Maps, which the instructions clearly state, but initially confused me. The cabin was cozy, hot tub a tight fit for 4 but worked. There was a banjo and guitar which we loved having as a part of our stay. The floor was a bit creaky upstairs (made tip toeing around for babies not so sneaky). The owner was warm and easy to reach. Quick note--be ready to take the trash with you or prepared to pay an additional $35 fee.
