«I had been traveling for a day and was staying one night at this hotel before my next flight the morning after. I was very tired and felt so welcomed by the staff even tho it was late. I received great service and a very nice and clean room. In the morning it was still the same staff at the hotel just as happy and welcoming as before and gave me a great breakfast and a free shuttle to the airport. «We asked in advance if we could store our luggage at the hotel while we’re driving around in other parts of Costa Rica, and we were told we could so we booked a stay at Barceló for the start and end of our one week trip. When we got to the hotel however they refused to store our luggage, and were very unhelpful and not very friendly, and we ended up having to ask a local guy to store our gear instead since we wouldn’t be able to fit it all in our rental car.

«Cozy, homely place w/ helpful staff! Our flight was very delayed and we didn't arrive until 3 am, and were very happy to get in, as it seemed we had to wake up the receptionist (so sorry!). The place is quite intimate, so be mindful that you need to be considerate of other guests. Comfortable beds, nice breakfast area in the small backyard. Nb! There was only one shower and two toilets (placed very close to the restaurant/breakfast area, wich is not super private). But quiet and convenient ...

«Peter and his staff were so kind and welcoming, he even stayed up until 1am for our late flight. The only complaint are the beds were pretty stiff, but that’s common in CR. It’s under the flight path of the airport so you will hear the jets every now and then, it can be loud at times. Overall I was very pleased with the sincere kindness we received, that to me means a lot. Thanks!»

«I checked out before breakfast was served. The hotel was conveniently located with plenty of restaurants and shops around it. The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. Getting here by Uber from the airport took 1 hr due to traffic congestions in the late afternoon. But going to the airport in the early morning hour (before 6 am) took only 15 min. Overall, it was a nice stay and the hotel and room condition are as one would expect of a Holiday Inn Express. »

"We asked in advance if we could store our luggage at the hotel while we’re driving around in other parts of Costa Rica, and we were told we could so we booked a stay at Barceló for the start and end of our one week trip. When we got to the hotel however they refused to store our luggage, and were very unhelpful and not very friendly, and we ended up having to ask a local guy to store our gear instead since we wouldn’t be able to fit it all in our rental car.
The hotel in general seems like it was super nice several decades ago, but now seems worn and has an out of date standard, and the average age at the hotel residents seems to be around 75.
When we checked into our room it obviously wasn’t ready, there were now pillow cases, no soaps and they had removed the fridge, so no minibar or any possibility of storing cold drinks. After asking about this several times we finally got pillow cases and soaps, but no fridge or any effort to compensate this or figure out another solution.
Of course it’s not horrible to lay by a pool in this awesome climate, and they seem to do their best to keep the pool area clean, even though it seems to be impossible due to the vegetation around, but the pool area was definitely the best part about our stay.
Not looking forward to coming back for the last night of our Costa Rica stay, since it feels like we were tricked into booking the two nights, without getting the service we thought we would."
