This was a large room with a kitchenette which made it easy for us to organise our own breakfast. It was also within easy distance of the local restaurants, a laundrette and a petrol station which was very useful.

Not a bad place to stay but in the morning we found the toaster was broken (not the end of the world except we have a 1yr old who desperately wanted his toast for breakfast) it was too early to resolve but at checkout we let the guy on the front desk know and it sounds like it happens often and he didn't seem to care that it wasn't functioning. The shower pressure was a bit poor also.

Hi Kirsty, your comments are misleading so would like to clarify. I guy at front dest did care - he was me the owner, we love our place. I said to you items in rooms frequently get damaged by guests so are not precious. I could have changed it out for you at a reasonable time as you did not leave early. The shower presser may seem low maybe because in NZ we strive to consume less using water saving shower heads. Vaughan/Owner

Lovely units , great pool !
A great place to stay at the base of the Coromandel Peninsula . It was a clean , comfortable studio well equipped kitchenette . Gardens and outdoor pool are lovely . It is just off the highway but within walking to restaurants .

A very pleasent overnight stay as we passed through. Comfortable, quiet, friendly staff/owner and a surpisingly nice view across the bay from our room. I recommend the Avalon Motel.

Okay for an overnight stay
A very late booking left us with an upstairs room which was changed on arrival to a larger ground floor room. The room was for 4 people but had no hanging storage space. There was no hairdryer. The was a microwave oven but no hob. The room was very clean but one of the sheets was marked which had not come out in the wash. The hand and bath towels seemed to be old and stiff and the kitchen towel did not dry well.. The shower was good but paint had started to come off a shower wall. We gave stayed here before and would go again if in Thames but this room was due for a bit of refurbishment. We were met well and management was friendly and helpful in the room change which was necessary due to mobility problems. WiFi in the room was not good at all and TV channels limited.

reviews like yours are a load of worthless rubbish. if you book a room online because its cheaper and then don't want it on arrival don't cry when you are given a replacement.

The host was great, settle us in to our room with no hassles. The room itself was spacious, very clean with great amentities. We were on the ground floor overlooking the pool. The only thing we were not happy about was that we couldnt stay longer.

Great communication and remedial action
I didn't stay hence the neutral ratings as there are no "N/A" options. Despite booking and payment being made a room was not available. However, as soon as the manager became aware he contacted me and advised that a nearby alternative had been arranged. This action means that I will book to stay at Avalon at a future visit. The alternative accommodation rated as excellent.

Comfortable accommodation
Very comfortable large garden room. Very clean and we were able to check in at 12.00 noon. Quiet despite being close to busy road. Not enough TV channels. At least we could not find many. Would go again.

Absolutely lovely motel, clean, comfortable bed and friendly staff. Highly recommend, would definitely return. We had originally booked 3 nights at aqua soleil apartments in whitianga but left as was not clean, bed very uncomfortable and after waking to a cockroach on us we left and stayed here.

When I arrived the Expedia booking was not showing up on Avalon's records. Seems my booking was being processed at exactly the same time as they were selling the room to someone else. However Avalon coped very well with the situation by sorting out within an hour a unit in the process of refurbishment so that we had somewhere to stay. They handled it very well and we were most grateful.

Good place to stay between Auckland and Hahei. We flew in late and didn’t want to drive the whole way. The owner made arrangements for our room and late arrival with no problem. The facility is older but it is clean, has been well cared for and has some upgrades in furniture. this is the 5th motel in New Zealand we have been to and overall they do not disappoint. Much better standards and conditions than any motel is the US. This is a great value.

This is a great property & would highly recommend. Very clean & recently renovated. Owners very friendly & willing to help. We walked into town which was fine for us but if you were elderly it may be a bit far but is a very short car ride. Only negative was that we had smokers staying next door so we couldn't have our door or window open as the smoke kept coming into our room. Would be good if made a non smoking property.

The property was beautifully kept. Only rub, it is a long ways to the nearest restaurant and other services. A very long walk or a car ride. I highly recommend this motel.
