This is a lovely place for a getaway. My husband and I needed some R&R with an emphasis on rest. We enjoyed a hike in Shenandoah National Park, visited favorite places in Culpeper, and found some new interesting spots. Just driving the roads nearby (which is necessary to get to even the tiny community of Syria) was such a pleasure! The cabin itself is very pleasant and fairly comfortable. The furniture was too large for 5'4" me, the showerhead and bathroom faucet should be replaced, and I would have appreciated blinds in the bedroom, but we loved the hardwood floors, high ceilings, full kitchen, and deck. The pond is so serene (when swimmers aren't present) and there are fishing poles on the porch. I do have three warnings for people considering staying here. First, there really is no WiFi or television reception. That was a plus for me. I brought 6 videos and we watched another 5 or 6 from the collection there, and when my husband needed WiFi, he could connect in Madison, about 10 miles away. Second, the road to the cabin is steep and very rough! If you're not comfortable driving on gravel, with potholes galore, this isn't the place for you. Finally, there are a lot of steps, some crumbling and mossy. We are not quite young, and had to take rest breaks while hauling in our clothes and groceries. When leaving, I dropped bags from the deck to my husband to save some effort. If you're young, it won't be a problem but folks with bad knees or backs, beware.
