I am submitting this complaint regarding my recent stay at the Stone Hill Inn in Stowe, Vermont, due to service failures and inappropriate conduct by the innkeeper.
The first night of our stay was acceptable. The room was clean and well appointed. Breakfast the first morning, however, was mediocre — the omelet was bland and the oatmeal underwhelming, which was disappointing given the cost and expectations.
The second night was unacceptable due to a complete lack of hot water. We specifically booked this inn for the jacuzzi tub after a long day of hiking, which was a primary reason for choosing this property. We checked multiple times throughout the evening to see if hot water returned, but it never did. As a result, we were unable to shower and went to bed dirty after hiking.
The following morning, I was confronted by the innkeeper, who aggressively asked me to step into the kitchen and accused us of breaking a toilet and shattering porcelain. This accusation was completely unfounded. We did not damage any property. When I stated I needed a moment to understand the accusation, I was told — angrily — that I had “one minute.”
I declined breakfast that morning due to the confrontation and offered for the innkeeper to inspect the room before we left so he could see there was no damage. He refused. Notably, we had tipped the staff member who cleaned the room, who never mentioned any damage at the time.
The false accusation and hostile behavior were deeply troubling
