Newtown Retreat: Award-Winning Renovation + Ideal Location

Prepare an elaborate meal in the spacious, fully equipped kitchen. Relax on the front porch as the sun sets behind the nearby mountains. Gather for a group movie night. Or sink into your own king-size bed with a good book.

This downtown home was painstakingly renovated to highlight its historic character and is a proud recipient of the Historic Staunton Foundation's 2021 Residential Rehabilitation Award.

The kitchen has all the equipment you'll need to cook for your entire group, and includes stainless appliances and a gas range. Essential herbs, spices, salt/pepper are kept well stocked. Complementary locally roasted coffee is provided.

Each of the 3 bedrooms features a king-size bed with deluxe foam mattress, en suite bathroom, phone chargers, bluetooth / white noise speaker, and large original sash windows with oversized blackout curtains.

The living room and each bedroom feature a smart TV (with Netflix, Amazon, Youtube apps). The living room also has a work desk with office chair as well as foosball table.

The house has excellent wifi in every space as well as outdoors, thanks to 600-mbps fiber optic internet.

This home is beautiful, classy updates and such attention to all details. We had been traveling for six weeks staying at other rentals This home was at the top of the list. We felt very safe here as well. It is in a one way street with parking out front or in the driveway. Other than an occasional car going up the street, the neighborhood is very quiet. We truly enjoyed having a glass of wine on the front porch.!! I could go on, but in short, we would definitely stay again and highly recommended. Thank you for hosting!Cheryl and David

A great place, very clean and so well equipped, especially the kitchen. The beds are comfortable and have duvets with covers. Cozy! It was great to have a bathroom for each bedroom plus a half bath on the first floor. The house is in a good location, an easy walk to ‘downtown’ with good restaurants and interesting stores. Staunton is a nice town and good location to explore the Shenandoah Park.

Beautiful!

This was probably the easiest check in/ check out process. Chris was great to work with and answered all my questions in a timely manner. The house is beautiful. Extremely clean and well taken care of. The location was perfect. We were able to walk to town which is exactly what we were looking for. We will definitely be back! Thanks Chris for everything!

A town full of surprises

This home was beautifully decorated and staged. Very clean. The beds were extremely comfortable and having 3 en suite bedrooms was excellent. The kitchen was well equipped and the communication with the host very fast. The house is close to downtown as well as many of the local attractions. We were all impressed with the house and the town. 10 marks out of 10.

Updated, Clean and Close to Town

My husband, 3 year old, 2 month old and I all stayed for four nights. We appreciated the proximity to attractions. We visited Natural Chimneys and Blue Ridge Tunnel, both about 30 minutes away. If you have children, definitely check out Montgomery Hall park only 5 minutes away. Glad the park was so close, especially since the front porch is the only outdoor space. Eat at Mill Street Cafe, delicious!

Lovely home but hard to access

My family stayed here while visiting me in Staunton and they enjoyed the space. It was the perfect size to meet up and share some meals while they were in town. However, the property itself was a little hard to access. With how close street parking spots were to the driveway, it was impossible to fit two cars into the driveway and I always had to resort to street parking. Getting into the house itself also proved challenging - the front stairs are quite steep and my father felt unsteady without a tight grasp on the handrail.

Downtown Classic

The house was clean, not overstuffed with furniture, and plenty of bathrooms. Nice big table downstairs that accommodated board games and 1000 piece puzzles. Bedding was nice with plenty of pillows and blankets.

This downtown location was perfect for our family with easy access to downtown and Gypsy Hill Park. Great skate park and playgrounds. The house is very modern and clean. A lot of thought and care was put into this property. Thank you Chris!

Lovely house; excellent owner

We really had a great stay here. The house has been completely (and beautifully) renovated. Though it's sited quite close to the street, we had no issues with noise - which says a lot, considering we live on 40 acres of woods in northern Vermont. The house has pretty much everything you could ask for. It's centrally located in a safe neighborhood and within walking distance to a number of restaurants & cafes. We enjoyed some DELICIOUS pizza at Pizza Luca as well as yummy tacos and burritos at Chicano Boy Taco. We also visited several local attractions and hiking areas. The owner was very responsive to our questions and checked with us a couple of times to make sure all was good during our stay.We've stayed at a number of vacation rentals and highly recommend this one. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

My family and I enjoyed our stay. The home was well equipped with everything we needed and more making our stay very enjoyable and stress free. Perfect Retreat

This house is perfectly set up for guests. everything we needed was at hand, even some things we didn’t know we would want, like chargers for all sorts of devices. How this place manages to balance the. Victorian charm of an older home with every modern convenience you’d want is astounding. It was clean and well stocked. The location si an easy walk to all of downtown but out o the way enough to be quiet. Honestly, the view f sunrise from the front porch and living room window is worth the price alone. We couldn’t have been happier with this property.

Staunton Convenient to Everything

This historic home is just down one of Staunton's main residential streets from Mary Baldwin University. The house has been completely restored in a modernist style. The kitchen is both appealing and functional. The parlor area has adequate seating for several people. The bed was quite comfortable. I should note that our host, Chris was a great communicator and made extra effort to ensure we enjoyed our stay..

Historic Staunton House

Recently renovated, just outside the main shopping and restaurant downtown area, the house was extremely clean and stocked with everything a traveler might need. Location was easy to find, check in and out was simple, and double lock door was secure and safe. The ambience of the interior was fresh and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this house if visiting historic Staunton.

Wonderful Week at Newtown Retreat
