This was our attempt to find a family beach break somewhere in Europe before Winter. We have a wriggly 1 year old and didn't fancy a long flight. 2hrs 15mins flight time from Gatwick to Cagliari was perfectly manageable.
We hired a car, and the journey from Cagliari to the holiday house was easy, and a nice journey along the sea. The host told us where to stop to get some fresh food on the way.
The house had everything we needed. A lovely twin room for my 5 year old, with lovely kiddy paintings and a moon night light, which she loved and made her feel at home. A comfy double room for us, with lovely large window overlooking the hills and a big eucalyptus tree. On the warmer evenings we left the window open and could hear the crickets (I think they were crickets?) and the sea. And a second double bedroom where our host had set up a cot for our 1 year old, and was very comfy.
The Kitchen had everything we needed, with dining area inside and out. In October we managed to eat outside most meal times, with the acceptation of a couple of cool breezy evenings, and 1 where we escaped a bombardment of wasps.
The house and grounds are on a couple of levels on the side of a hill, meaning the views from the house over the beach and an expanse of sea are absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful sun sets. It meant we had to closely watch the 1 year old, as the house is essentially built from the rock of the hill side, so lots of beautiful stone steps and walls for our him to practice his new found crawling / walking skills on.
The pool was just stunning, quite bracing at this time of year, the sea was actually warmer, as it had all summer to warm up. But the warm outside shower was there to warm you up quickly... we LOVED this shower. Build out of the rock and around a tree branch, over hung by a wild olive tree, and views up to the stars at night. Our nearly 5 year old daughter had a swim lesson with the host in the pool , and our daughter did her first ever dive!
My favourite thing to do was to relax on the loungers by the pool with a local ice cream, watching the sun set.
You can walk down to the local beach, its down the bumpy access road and then off track and under the road. With a 1 year old on our back and our daughter walking it took us about 25 minutes, but we thought nicer than driving. Just put on bug spray on if your fair skinned.
We hope to return with friends one day. And thank you Cinzia for your looking after us so well xx
