Nicole began harassing me via text because she wasn't comfortable with the sound of nature...you know like birds, squirrels, crickets. I explained to Nicole that Saugatuck was located in a rural area...you know like open space, nature, trees. She wasn't having any of that. She felt is was unfair in NicoleWorld to be subjected to such sounds. She then complained about the bugs. Yes, insects exist in nature. Insects also love entering homes when windows and doors are left open. Nicole thought was unfair. In NicoleWorld, insects do not dare to come near her and her guests even when she leaves windows and doors open in the home. Nicole also complained about the beds...a first, for my reviews. The comfort of the beds are consistently complimentary. Finally, Nicole cannot read. The home is historic. That means it is old. Like 1834 old. She clearly did not read about the description of the house on VRBO, or the way it is decorated when she booked. In NicoleWorld, old is bad. Farmhouses dating back to the early 1800s, before Michigan statehood and The Homestead Act, should not exist. My recommendation to NicoleWorld is that the next time she's in Saugatuck, she should stay up the street at the Best Western on Blue Star Highway. I hear they have wonderful complimentary shower soap.

Sincerist apologies Larry. July was a challenging month. Dare I say a nightmare. I had 4 large families (with children). booked for long stays. They were all slobs, and left food everywhere. Despite my repeated concerns and warnings to my July guests about open food, I was ignored. I take full responsibility. Next year, all guests will be screened. And I will no longer allow occupants 12 and younger. No more kids...sorry folks. The mouse problem was eliminated in August. (And to my shock, there was only one. Once caught the problem disappeared.) After 5 years, it was remarkable that I was able to keep the house as spotless and mouse free given the amount of traffic that the house has endured.

Unfortunately, as noted in an earlier response to a review, this July was a nightmare. After not having this problem since purchasing the property 5 years ago, I was cursed with several guests who deliberately left open food and beverages throughout the kitchen overnight...despite my warnings. The problem was isolated to the kitchen. Vicki was correct; the problem began after my July 4th guests. Since that time, the problem has significantly decreased, and I'm further doubling my efforts to completely seal the first floor of a 189 year old house. Vicki and guests left food out. They were not clean. After 5 years, I've decided to start screening my guests before they book.

I have owned the home for 6 years. The home is spotless. Unfortunately this July, I was cursed with guests that were absolute slobs. Food left out, doors and windows left open. Leslie was not an exception. Only one guest kept the place clean during their extended stay in July. When you leave food out, you invite pests...despite the house being sealed top to bottom. I need to start screening my guests. That is my fault. jmk

Marcus and his clueless friends decided to park his car on my front lawn about 8 feet from the front door. Bizarre. The house is set back 100 feet, so this nitwit used my front lawn as a driveway rather than the REAL DRIVEWAY. His feelings were hurt because I had the audacity to call him (and his friends) out for their stupidity. My neighbor, directly across the street, is a retired Chicago Police Officer. He was justifiably angry at the sight of a car parked on his neighbors front lawn like that. He notified me and yes, I angrily told Marcus to remove his car immediately. No apologies. Marcus decided to change his name for this post by the way. Cowardice. His real name is Marcus Means and he is a business owner of the AquaCleanGr Auto Detailing located in Grand Rapids, MI. He stayed at The Elizabeth House a month earlier and was a slob. Good riddance Marcus.

Historic home....like built in 1834 historic. Two of the three upstairs bedrooms have overhead lighting. The third upstairs bedroom (master) has three table lamps. The House is exceptionally well-lit. The light switches in the bedrooms turn on the overhead lights. The smell from the water was temporary. Saugatuck uses well water, the home's main water filtration is changed regularly. All homes in Saugatuck are built on sand, and early September can be very humid. Mustiness is likely, particularly if your guest leaves all windows and doors open. Bugs are common during the summer particularly if doors and windows are left open. Guests that leave food out overnight will eventually attract insects.
