6/10 – Grei

The Carlton has gone downhill since it was purchased a year or so ago. Although the bedding and pillows are comfortable and the staff is very friendly and helpful, I had to ask for the full size towels instead of the smaller “hair towels” (as they call them) for both my stays in August and this December.
The new heating system doesn’t work properly so the room was still 74 degrees even after setting the heat at 65 for 24 hours. They were accommodating and let me change rooms after the first night.
The tv remotes in both rooms needed new batteries. The closet light wouldn’t go off because there was too much space between the side of the door and the push bottom that should turn it off when the door is closed. The lighting in the remodeled rooms is very dim and hard to see at night. Especially as you enter the room and also in the bedroom area. The larger vintage king rooms where I normally stay no longer have a desk. The hairdryer in the room they switched me to was a cheap Conair (like from a drugstore) with a cord too short to stand in front of the mirror while drying my hair.
There was no lamp on one of the nightstands in the second room.
I shouldn’t mention the aesthetics/interior design, because it’s the only subjective comment I have and because someone might like it, but suffice to say it’s a little scary for my taste - pea green walls and ceiling, , lovely traditional bed with wallpaper behind it, but mixed with 1960’s era Jetson’s light fixtures.
